As my son grows I always do things with him.
what ever catches his interest I use to help him learn and grow,
I try to guide his interests by giving him healthy selections of things to play with.
right now he is 2 years 8 months. we go to the park and other play grounds all the time.
he loves music, I got him his own music keyboards, drums, xylophone, whistle.
he likes to pick out and listen to music with me, he knows how to run the CD-ROM and DVD, plugging in his earphones.
We play cars with Lego's, blocks, stuffed animals, I am always getting him to call them by their names.
I work with him with flash cards, he is doing really well.
I been also trying to teach him sign language,
I let him help me with cleaning house, he has his own broom and dustpan and stuff.
I have him pick up his own toys and put them away.
He loves to help me make meals, I find he eats more of what I feed him when I let him get involved and have choices.
He is doing really well, he is speaking sentences now.
We make finger paints together, play with Play doe, working on his drawing skills, stuff like that.
He loves his tricycle I got him, he is learning to ride it really well now all on his own.
He helps me pick up trash around the out side of the home and throw it away, He hardly ever litters (out doors).
He is basically potty trained now, only problem is keeping his cloths on while in the home, heh.
He is well on his way to dressing and undressing him self, I set out 3 sets of cloths and let him pick what he wants to wear for the day (most of the time).
I read too him all the time, I have over 80 children's books for him to choose from.
When he wants something he tells me, if I do not understand he takes my finger and leads me and shows me.
He hardly ever has tantrums, now and then he gets whiny but I hardly ever let him get his way when he does.
About the only real time he gets whiny is when he is in need of a nap.
He loves to give me hugs and stuff, go on long walks with me.
He likes hop on pop games just to see me grunt. heh.
He enjoys cardboard box's especially when I push him around in them.
we play hide and go seek games and peekaboo games often.
We play tickle games often, run around the home giggling and playing.
I can get him to eat most anything I put in front of him anymore. (he used to be VARY picky)

Any fun or educational activity suggestions anyone?
Winter is coming, I want to be sure I am ready for it, I do not want him to get board.

Your son is dressing himself at this age? Wow -

I think you've got the activity thing pretty well covered. I know kids that age that don't get 1/2 of that stimulation and activity -mostly they watch TV- you sound like a wonderful, attentive mom!

Just don't forget to have fun and don't' stress about not always having an activity for him -Sometimes the simplest things made my son happy at that age and sometimes nothing made him happy (LOL) ...nothing but a nap.

HAVE FUN!

Lol, no, but he is well on his way, he undresses when I tell him needing only minimal help.
and he is doing fine at his stage of trying to dress him self.
I tell him to put his pants on and he does, they may not always be on the right way but he is trying.
same with his shirts.

I also have him counting to 6, I use an abacus.
he does not understand the counting yet, its still kind of mimicking, but repetition works good as a teaching tool.
he wants to please me and this helps, he is a daddy's boy, many times he brings the abacus to me as a way to play.
there has been a couple times others have come over too my home and seen me ask my son to do something
and he does or he tries, then they try to get him to do the same thing and he acts dumb or just refuses. LoL.
Much of it has to do with how I reward him, much love and attentions and encouragement, and when he does
really well we go for walks to places he wants to go, mostly the park, but I take him there at least once a week anyways.
I do not have to drill him to learn, I turn it all into play that he enjoys. many times I let him choose the activity.
what I do is I buy things that he can enjoy and are developmental and educational, then I let him choose out of those.
and I do not just let him go off and play by him self, I most always involve my self in his activities as he does mine.
I treat him as a friend as well as my son.
