Curious. Was your child diagnosed on the spectrum by school district? Or, was it through a private evaluator?

My son was diagnosed by Chapel Hill TEACCH. I don't think I would have trusted a diagnosis from a school district.

Here's the crux. The team wants to use my IEE (independent evaluator...best in town) to do a reevaluation with a different evaluator (this is two years later).

I do trust the center but know how these things play out when the district is footing the bill. I"ve had a bad experience already with district evaluations.

Private evaluation at the Autism Center - Children's Hospital.

My daughter was diagnosed by a Psych Dr, our MD agreed & she was under the care of a counselor who specialized in Asp. The school (Dallas TX) needed to do their own eval to qualify her for special ed funding & the social worker who did the test *decided* she was not spectrum so she did not qualify, even w/ a note from both Drs & her therapist/councilor . We moved.

We had our district do the initial evaluation. As time went on, we had a neuropsych evaluation at a Children's hospital that pretty much agreed with the initial diagnosis.

Awful situation for you. Social worker is not qualified to do the evaluation of this caliber. I keep social workers out of the picture, honestly. They are ill equipped (in my experience) and make matters worse rather than better. What district are you in?

The district evaluation will be using one of the top autism centers in our state, where my son got his initial diagnosis.

My son was dx'd threw the children's hosp autism team but Im in Australia. I wouldn't trust the school psych with my pets (well the one at his last school any way) she had no clue.

Question for you (sorry if you answered in another post) Why is the school wanting another dx?
Do they think perhaps your son has gotten better? Or has he gotten worse? Can't think of another way of putting that ?, hope you don't take offense.

They are using my indendent evaluator (very reputable autism center), so it won't happen with their team. Although, the team will provide input.

Why? This is the million dollar question. Two taped IEP meetings with director present and the suggestion from Princpal, that we get the experts in. I don't see his behavior any as worsened. It's steadily unpredictable and he has good days and not so good days where he refuses to work, shuts down, blurts out in appropriate comments, has peer issues, gets frustrated etc. They've put a behavioral plan (leveled) into place but haven't noticed much difference in the classroom (I knew it wouldn't work...they usually don't with my son). His academics are steady but not as strong as they could be.
