Yeah, except all the problems you've pointed out are now in actuality worse on the Wii, except that the Wii is painted white and not purple. So with that said, I'm going to say the Wii, for ruining video gaming as we know it. I mean sure, you can say CD-i, or Game.com, or some obscure thing like that, but they never could impact anything. However, Wii's impact has ruined gaming. Plus, specs wise, an original Xbox is better than a Wii.

Maybe I've become a bitter old "back in my day..." kinda person at my young age. Oh well.

Yes and no, I mean it ran on Windows CE for it's OS for some stuff, but games were programmed in I believe assembly. But stuff like Sega browser and whatnot was CE. Yeah, Dreamcast seems more or less like an Xbox prototype. Same damned controller even.

how many consoles do you know that have been upgradable? I know the answer ISN'T zero, but it wasn't many. It doesn't hold the games industry back at all. Seems like you do not play on a PC. We who do can tell if a game is "consolified" or not, i.e. it has been dumbed down to allow for slow reaction times (i.e. a gamepad/controller), it has a stupid simplistic GUI, features removed and there are no way to beef up graphics beyond what was state of the art - half a decade ago.

For the worst game system of all time I'd have to go with the Virtual Boy, it had no good games what-so-ever (In my opinion) and using it for too long fried your eyes,

*sighs* This discussion again? To mention a few "good" games: Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Galaxy 1+2, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Punch-Out, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Okami, No More Heroes, plus backwards compatibility with Gamecube and downloads of old games. And trust me: I'm a Wii gamer and absolutely detest games like Wii Sports.
(also, shame on them for daring to release games that appeal to more than the "hardcore" market. Yeah, for shame.)

I'm sure some people won't like what I'm about to say, but..

Wii. 90 percent of its games are for little kids, it has HORRIBLE graphics and online, and the only good games are made by Nintendo.

I'm not a person who judges games by their graphics, but the Wii is less powerful than a smartphone for Gods sake. That's just sad.

^ I agree. It's a good family console though, plenty of kid games and simple enough to navigate for a five year old. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are too complicated for a kid so young to navigate, but my seven year old niece can easily get on Netflix with the Wii (whereas with the Xbox and PS3 she is totally lost).

I like Nintendo consoles because they are made simple, but the graphics aren't up to par with the PS3 and Xbox 360.

I also agree, the Wii is actually just sad, It only sold because of the new controls (Which were fun for 2 days)

No, the Wii didn't ruin it, XBox Live ruined it. Even without the Wii the PS3 and XBox360 would suck as much as they do with they lack of variety and the focus on realistic shooter and online gimmicks to the depend of everything else.

Also, the specs don't say everything. The GameCube was almost as good as a XBox technically wise, and on that point superior to the PS2. (Though I do consider the PS2 as the best console of it's generation for the variety of games.)

Okay, I think you've completely walked around my point as opposed to actually answering to it (and actually I do play games on PC, specifically designed for gaming.)

However, if you find that a game has been 'consoleified' as you put it, this is down to the games companies not making the decision to make these changes for PC. You'll also find that especially these days that game companies will favour consoles over PC - it's where their biggest market is.

To summarise my point though: Console =/= PC.

All video game consoles have their ups and downs, but I think this thread should be about the most serious ups and downs (such as controller designs or graphic display).

Of course we would all look at older consoles, because of how new gaming was back then. Now it is refined so much, we're looking at the little things about the consoles that could easily be fixed in a future generation.

So, ask yourselves this: What really is the worst video game system?
