I've found the best way to do it is to look down, and both fire AND jump at the same time. Or, if you have 50 cents handy, buy The Rocket Jumper, and create yourself a local server to mess around it. It's honestly the kind of thing that does very quickly become second-nature.
Oh trust me. I've tried tons of times. With that exact same method. I never go very high.

Yeah... I'm okay at rocket jumping, but I'm not super good like I can't go super high either even if I do follow directions of tutorials on Youtube. I don't like rocket jumping a lot primarily because I don't want to embarass myself.

I can't really sticky jump either, my excus for not sticky jumping I tell people? I'm trying to conserve hit points!

It's not worth much. Smelt two weapons of the same class you don't want into a scrap metal, and chances are you'll be able to trade the scrap for a Manmelter. Be careful, though, free-to-play players can't use the trade feature.
Personally, I don't much like that weapon, because it takes forever to charge.

I agree, the Man Melter is sort of sucky but it does two good things - a) extinguish teammates without using airblast from the flamethrower (and all the ammo that it uses) and b) the projectile speed is faster, so it can be better at long range shots versus the other flare guns, especially because the shot arcs/drops a lot less. On the other hand, even in MvM upgraded to shoot as fast as possible, its still slow as a turtle. The regular flare guns become nearly machine guns if you upgrade them all the way.

I was playing on the weirdest of servers awhile ago... The background and some objects looked like a mixture of fluorescent colored 8bit grahphics and legos, and when you would go near some objects my little pony music would turn on, or a trance song about mushrooms... There was even someone with a my little pony tail on. I didn't spend much time on it, it freaked me out to be honest. I know a lot of MLP people are on here though, so you guys might like it.
