Thanks to patch mining of the Japanese patch releases hours ago, we have new content.

These characters, stages and other content are rumored to be available for download after tomorrow's presentation.

Did anyone want Roy to come back? I am being serious here. What new does he bring to the game? PArdon me for being jaded, but he seems like just another swordfighter who is slow and has crappy recovery and furthermore i've heard he's not even well liked amongst the people who've played the game he comes from.

Why?

I didn't mind playing as him, though to be fair he did seem kind of unbalanced. He was basically like Marth, but with stronger attacks. I do agree though, there are way too many swordfighters in SSB's cast, as well as gimmick characters with stupidly small movesets.

Roy has been one of the most requested characters post melee.
He is slightly stronger, faster and better jumper than Marth.
He deals fire damage as well, which burns longer based on the strength of the attack.

I prefer the wacky movesets.

Yeah, I've had that same reaction. Frankly, I really dont want YET ANOTHER MARTH, which is the only name I'll use for him. I've had enough Marth to last the next 10000 years. Unless they changed him MASSIVELY, he's another clone character (another *direct* clone, that is; I'm not talking Ike here, who isnt REALLY a clone but is just another swordsman). Same moveset for the most part as Marth with minor differences in timing/hitboxes/fire/blahblahblah. There'll be piles of data detailing the differences if you're interested, I'm sure. Same as back in Melee, way back when. If you've fought Marth, or Lucina, you've fought Roy. Probably a million times. I'm tired of him already. Ugh.

Frankly though I didnt want Mewtwo or Lucas either, but that's just me. I suppose it at least gets them all out of the way. Though, for those that bashed the game because of it having too many clone characters, this will give them yet more ammo. Despite the game's large roster, which the clones dont exactly DETRACT from....


As for the other info, I'll go with my standard viewpoint of "bah, I'll believe it when it happens", as per standard protocol. THE INTERNET SHALL NOT FOOL ME EASILY!! ! ....I can fool myself quite fine, thank you very much.

He is similar to Marth yet very different.
Like I said above, he is strong than Marth, better stats, and can burn people with this sword attacks.
Burning people will deal extra damage on top of the main attack.

Like I've said before, "clone" doesnt mean exact copy; it typically means same moves, same animations, MAYBE one or two different normals or specials in some cases, such as Dr. Mario's spin attack on down+B instead of Mario's FLUDD thing (in most cases though in fighting games, this is not the case), but with a bit different stats (damage, stun, hitbox differences, speed of animation, whatever) and sometimes an extra property on certain moves (such as the fire, or Fox's laser VS Falco's laser, which has a bit of stun on it) compared to the other character.

If not for that, I'd be calling him a direct copy, not a clone. I cant think of any examples of a direct copy, except MAYBE Ryu VS Ken in Street Fighter, but I'm not familiar enough with that series to really be sure of that.

I dont find that sort of character very interesting though (particularly as I dont like Marth to begin with; never did, never will, I find his moveset to be boring) so I've no intention of buying him (and I dont like Fire Emblem to begin with; to me it's one of those "cure for insomnia" games). Or Lucas for that matter, though I know I'll be facing HIM over and over and over and over and over and over and over due to a certain friend of mine. I'll probably get Ryu though whenever he shows up.

I'm not counting the Final Smashes in any of this; I never use them, have always found the mechanic to be an annoying mess, and matches I'm in always have the Smash Ball turned off even when everything else is on (except online "for fun" matches, sigh...). Frankly, I dont actually remember what half of the Final Smashes are.

I am interested though in the idea of more stages being added to the game. One of the Kirby ones, I think it was? I forget (and that page suddenly isnt loading for me. I blame Comcast, because that's what they are for).

One stage I miss though: Corneria (may have spelled it wrong). I know it's on the 3DS version but I dont really play that (it wrecks my arm due to use of the triggers on that thing). I'd love to see it on the Wii U version. That and the Balloon Fight stage. Ah, the nostalgia with that one... I always loved that game. Funny that they gave the balloons to Villager as his up+B special.

I forgot where I was going with this. I should spend some time with the game today, I havent had a go at Smash recently due to playing waaaaayyyyyyy too much Isaac, and now Splatoon as well.

Methinks it's a bit late though for them to plug that particular leak.

I'd already downloaded both vids myself so I could show them to friends, since I figured they'd do that. Happened faster than I thought though.

Huh, that's cool, that Ryu comes with a stage. Ugh, I'll have to go on a wacky quest to get one of those blasted Nintendo shop cards again. Really need to just figure out where my accursed debit card went. It is a master of the art of stealth. I'll be a master of the art of goddamn scissors if I get my hands on the little snot.

Are there prices for the stages aside from Miiverse?

So much new stuff is going to be added! I'm worried all of it won't be able to make to the 3DS version due to data limits.

The 3DS version stores the DLC and patches on the memory cards, not the game card.

Also I was chose to buy Roy, Ryu, and the Dreamland stage ($1.99 for the stage).

Roy is way more speedier and agile than Marth and Lucina, though his fire sword charge range seems to be shorter than Melee.

Ryu is pure fighting lifted directly from SF series.
The harder you press the buttons, the stronger his attacks.
Also his counter attack is wonderful!

Oh the Miiverse stage is part of the patch, as the 10 new songs.

Also you are now able to use your 3DS as a controller for Smash Wii U, if you buy the $.99 required app.

a required app that's an interesting choice. I guess I just assumed if you had a 3ds plus smash 3ds game you could use it as a controller (though I never tried to use it as a controller). Oh well I suppose if your in a pinch and need controllers for 8 player smash its cheaper than buying a another controller.
