It's funny how there was a sims game on the last generation of consoles and has been on all of the handheld consoles, but never on the newest consoles. I think this is because they want to give people a reason to use their PC. I believe The Sims is one of the most popular games ever on the PC, if not THE most popular.

Not really, I think thats quite a naive understanding of how the gaming market works on the PC Platform

The PC is a superior gaming platform when push comes to shove. It supports 100's of niche genre's that a console publisher won't touch, it provides a great platform for modding, indie developers and open source software. All without having to go and aquire development kit's for several hundred £££ like your Xbox and what not would charge.

I'm always reading youtube vids about console owners bitchin how they can't mod their fallout 3's and Elder Scrolls Oblivion on their xbox's. Not a problem if you own the PC. Hell, having games open to such user friendly modification greatly extends their use years after release.

I spent many hours with the original Sims and its half dozen (well actually seven) expansion packs and some time with the second game and some of its expansions. I gave up keeping up with the franchise after the second game, and I did not want to buy anything else from EA, especially with all that nasty DRM they put into Spore. I probably spent more time remodeling everyone's houses than actually playing the game.

My brother and I had our own "universe" with specific characters who had distinct personalities. Bob was an overweight lazy bum who was quite content watching TV, and Betty did not approve, so she moved out. One Sim had a tendency to have frequent "accidents" and another drove everyone in the neighborhood crazy.

Aside from the original games, I played The Sims Online for a few months when it was coming out of beta. I gave up on that after playing started to become more of a chore than fun.

I have the first Sims (it's too old for me) and a few game console versions (only one was really good, and I've played it over 5 times), so I'm curious what the Sims 3 is like. I want to get it, just unsure how much memory it uses. Even though my computer is relatively new, it's still a bit iffy with newer programs - I'm unsure why. I wonder if there are used versions out that I can afford.

Thats the problem with The Sims. Its more work than fun and i suspect that the motives of The Sims are sinister, especially now after EA starts collecting data over the net about how people play the Sims.

Yahzee (A satiric game critic) comes to a similar conclusion with The Sims 3:

Okay, I've been slightly obsessed in the past few hours and have been looking at as many reviews for Sims 3 and its expansions as possible. So I have a few questions for those who have the game :)

1. Which is your favourite expansion? Ambitions has a lower rating on Gamestop (8.0), but sounds more interesting then World Adventure...

2. Is there really a lot less items in Sims 3 then in Sims 1-2? If so, does it limit your game play at all?

3. If my computer is pretty new (got it at Christmas), do I need to install/purchase anything extra to be able to play the game?

That's all I have for now, I'll ask more later. I'm hoping I can find it used somewhere so I can get it, it sounds really good!

Ambitions adds more to the core gameplay than World Adventures. World Adventures is also quite fun, travelling to the different lands and doing adventures. If I were to choose only one I'd choose Ambitions.

2. Is there really a lot less items in Sims 3 then in Sims 1-2? If so, does it limit your game play at all?
It hasn't been an issue for me, I've been satisfied with the variety of items provided.

I think you should be fine if it's a new computer, but check out the system requirements to be sure: http://www.thesims3.com/game/systemreq

Amen, brother. The PC is transparently the superior games platform, and always has been. The fools who only play on consoles don't know the freedom they're missing.

I LOOOVE TS3. I'm on generation five of my legacy... my game died, however, and I'm working on fixing it again. ):

To be honest, sims 3 is the first actual sims game i've played excluding Mysims. I think it's okay. It gets a little boring after awhile. I'm more of a shooter/fighting gamer.

Compared to the sims 2 + all expansions the sims 3 hasn't quite matured into its full potential yet

I played it obsessively when it first came out. I played a legacy challenge to generation 10, but then got bored and uninstalled. Watching some trailers for Ambitions has recently piqued my interest again and I reinstalled the base game and have been playing a bit. My computer just barely handles the base game so I haven't wanted to push my luck with any expansions, however we are getting a new desktop next week (yay!) and I am going to get Ambitions ASAP!

1. Which is your favourite expansion? As I said above haven't tried any for Sims 3 yet, however Ambitions looks like it would add more to my own particular style of gameplay over WA.

2. Is there really a lot less items in Sims 3 then in Sims 1-2? If so, does it limit your game play at all?
At first I really missed all my custom content from Sims 2 (I had tonnes of medieval and Harry Potter CC!), but I ended up liking the new personality traits and the open neighbourhood enough to outweigh the limited content. Also there is new CC for TS3 coming out all the time from places like Mod the Sims and goodness knows EA will put out about a billion stuff packs and expansions as time goes on.

3. If my computer is pretty new (got it at Christmas), do I need to install/purchase anything extra to be able to play the game?
Age of computer doesn't matter as much as your specs (there are many brand new PCs with cruddy video cards that are no good for gaming), so I agree that you should check out the system requirements to be sure.

I played the core game in all kinds of ways. I even went out and made homeless sims. My plan for the next game is to make a homeless sim with no money and try to make money without a job. It's doable, there are 9 ways to do so that I've counted so far in the core game.
