I didn't know they ever sold pirate copies of it, but it sounds like you're talking about Sonic Crackers, which was basically a very early beta version of the 32X game, Knuckles Chaotix.

The Super Mario 2 on the Genesis looks like it's the worst in my opinion because of the fire bar in World 4-4 that instantly kills you even if you pass it when you're in small form without a Super Mushroom.
