I love both versions of the game.

The 3DS one is a great portable version that makes for a good companion to the Wii U version.
Though if you play the 3DS game on the New 3DS (Japan and AUS), it has near instant load times and allows for Miiverse posting.
It also uses Amiibos as well.

The Wii U version is just oozing charm and perfection...
I do not care for 6-8 player smash, because I find it too disorienting.
I love all the unlockables... So many songs and trophies.

I also own Villager and Link Amiibos... I just love them.
Next up is Zelda next Sunday.

My main characters are:
1) Ike
2) Villager
3) Zelda
4) Shulk
....

My favorite levels:
1) Pac-man stage - the one with in maze with the pellets (3DS)
2) Dr. Willy's stage, I love detonating the yellow guy
3) Duck hunt stage - if you kill the ducks, they will drop items (Wii U)
3) The new FE stage (Wii U)
4) The Angry Mom stage (Wii U)
5) Nintendogs stage (3DS)
6) Sonic Lost Worlds stage (Wii U)
7) Star fox Armada stage (Wii U)
8) The Miiverse stage - when it comes out (Wii U)
9) Pokemon stage (Wii U)
10) Pokemon stage (3DS)

Ohh so much to like, not enough good moods to enjoy it all (Haven't played in 3 days)

Also make sure to register both versions on Club Nintendo before mid January, to ensure you get Mewtwo DLC and the Soundtrack.

Yeah, totally agreed on the 8-way smash and such. It really DOES get disorienting. Big levels zoom out too far... and small ones cram too many people in, and it can be easy to lose track of where you are! Granted, those can be REALLY funny when there's explosions and things going off, but still. 4 players or less for me, thanks.

And I didnt know that about the Duck Hunt stage, hadnt thought to attack the ducks, I'll have to try that.

Agreed also with the 3DS Pac-Man level.

My favorite on the Wii U is probably the Wrecking Crew one. I loved the hell outta that game as a kid, a very overlooked game that most people dont know exists (and it stars Mario and Luigi, too), and that level really captured it perfectly. Even those horrible, game-ending barrels are there... they just dont force you to reset the game in Smash like they did in Wrecking Crew! It's difficult to trap an opponent in one of those, but it's sooooo worth it to do that.

For the most part though I like pretty much all of the stages, except maybe that dual-layer Donkey Kong one. it's just too hard to see what's going on when you're in the back layer...

Havent played it in a week or so myself, after my seemingly-indestructible-for-3-years-or-so controller decided that NOW was a super duper time to finally break (ARGH). It was a Nyko brand Classic controller for the Wii, and will be irritating to replace. It was specifically good because it doesnt make my hand cramp up with awkward shape and shoulder button positions like the other controllers can (normal Classic, and the Pro, I tried those, and... yeah, not gonna work). Might be able to finally deal with it today though.

The duck meter on the bottom also turns red with each duck you kill just like in duck hunt itself.
Not if anything happens if you get perfect duck kill.

If you live the Great Lakes region, Meijer's is having Santa Bucks Sale Wednesday and Thursday.
This means you can nab a Wii U Pro controller for $40 (or get a game or accessory at discount that isn't a prepaid card)!
I love playing with the gamepad and Pro controller, cannot go back to GC controller nor can I use any other controller.

In the Pac-man level you destroy the different color super pellets stoping your opponents from getting them.

You can hide in the barrels in the Wrecking Crew level too (The CPU has done that)

I had to kill a duck... they don't always drop items.
Though there is nothing like the ducks dropping a bunch of hammers.

The Smash Tour mode is great for unlocking character moves and other stuff for some reason (I just really love board games).

I don't think I've unlocked all the levels yet...

Also try this adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo ... er+adapter

I've owned one for over a year now and it plugs into your Wiimote.
It allows you to use a Gamecube controller on any Wii or Wii U game that uses classic controllers.
Though Smash Bros will see it as a CC Pro, so you will have to modify the controller settings.

It's well worth the money, if you don't want to track down an official GCN adapter.

Does anyone know if the Wii U version is different than the 3DS one? I understand they have playable stages the 3DS doesn't have but what about games and other features and characters and more stages when you do classic mode?

I have the 3Ds version and I love how we can use our Miis and how the game uses our Miis we have in our Mii maker when we fight them and I have unlocked all the characters. I still have one more stage to unlock.

Quite different. Different modes, different stages.... and of course it can be played with a variety of controller choices (the 3DS controls are..... ehhhh. Not very good.) Miis and their equipment and whatnot can be transferred between the two versions.

not to mention, playable on the big screen.... I found that it made alot of difference.

Another major difference is the difficulty....holy crap is Smash Wii U hard. It's seriously making me suicidal....but at least the RNG doesn't seem to be as bad as on 3DS ( still need approximately 10 hats & 30-ish custom moves on 3DS...need lots more on Wii U but the difficulty has me playing less )

Zelda, Little Mac, Captain Falcon, Luigi, Diddy Kong, and Pit!

Wave 3 comes out in February and they are:
Bowser, Toon Link, Sheik, Lucario (Target exclusive I believe), Sonic, Mega Man, King Dedede, Ike, Rosalina, Shulk, Meta Knight (Best Buy exclusive)

I plan to get Toon Link, Shiek, Sonic, Mega Man, Ike, Meta Knight...

(I know... :( )

So last's night round of smash, the host bought two adapters for the Wii-U that let us use game cube controllers. This makes 8-player so much more easy to play. I always hated the wiimote nunchuck for smash, and this makes the overall control of each character a lot smoother. Also he (the host) unlocked every character. Ike is very powerful and quite a bit faster... but I don't know he just lacked, Shiek is probably of one my new favorite characters, Sonic has more mele (hand to hand) moves and I think he's an improvement over Brawl Sonic, Mega Man... I sadly have neglected a round as Mega Man.... and Toon Link, but Meta Knight is probably my all time favorite in this version next to Charazard.

You neglected to mention Shulk is Gamestop exclusive, and Lucario is Toys R Us exclusive. Rosalina is Target exclusive.

Also, a lot of Amiibos are already near impossible to find and getting price gouged online....I wish I was filthy rich so I could actually get some....I want them ALL but so far I've only been able to get Peach & Link :(

Nintendo had admitted they are surprised at how popular they are, catching them off guard.

Retailers are also slow at restocking them and only will stock so many at once.

I personally have no reason to buy them all.
I just plan to buy Sheik, Toon Link, Ike and possibly Meta Knight and Mega Man.

Yeah, I aint buying them all either.

I currently have Mario, Donkey Kong, and Wii Fit Trainer.

Future buys will be Pit, King Dedede, and the one I'm most after which is Bowser, my main in the game.

So, mostly only the characters that I use/like the most.

You got Wii Fit Trainer? I'm so jealous....I haven't seen a single one anywhere. Ironically, I bought my favorite first and she's the one I find most ( Peach ). Getting Zelda for Christmas though :) I just want them all because I like the sculpts and I'm a HUGE Nintendo geek....

I can't wait until they announce Ness, I need some EarthBound love! Also, I can't wait to see Mr Game & Watch....will he be a flat 2D figure or be fleshed out awkwardly?

Ness and Game & Watch are already in the game, but mind you the host I play with has all the characters aforementioned the posts unlocked. I haven't played as either yet, but Ness seemed like he was pretty unchanged from brawl, and game & watch was hard to tell because the person playing him just tossed sausage at everyone and used no other attack, but he was still 2D.

Yep, I was randomly at the store for no particular reason after the first wave's initial shipments released, and as it wasnt a game-centered store (more of a supermarket), those things dont sell out fast in the same way that they would at a Gamestop (where they probably lasted about 5 minutes). Impulse-bought Wii Fit Trainer, Mario, and Donkey Kong right away.

Wii Fit Trainer, Marth, and Villager are now nigh-impossible to get. As I understand it, since they werent "major" known characters like Mario or Link, they were limited in quantity as it was thought they wouldnt sell as well.... yeeeaahhhh, someone miscalculated the heck outta that. They were just as wanted as any of the others. I didnt hear of any of this until a week or so after I bought those.

Hopefully, they wont make that mistake again with future Amiibos.

I know they're in the game...I was referring to their Amiibo. As in: will Mr Game & Watch's Amiibo be a flat 2D figure or an odd 3D version? And I'm awaiting the Ness Amiibo because he's from my favorite game of all time, with the Gamestop exclusive Shulk being from my 2nd most favorite game ( and immediately getting pre ordered once I get paid...no way am I risking the same BS going on with half the current figures happening to me with my top 2 favorites....same for Palutena, Lucina and Zero Suit Samus once they're announced for release. )

Both Ness and Game & Watch arent getting Amiibos. Nintendo isnt basing their lineup on JUST Smash itself (they're marketing them towards the game though), and it definitely does NOT come close to covering the entire roster. That's why each "wave" of these is so small, and there's only 3 waves.

The entire list can be found here: http://www.nintendo.com/amiibo/line-up/

In addition, click on the "compatibility chart" to see some of the currently revealed uses for this full set. All of them can be used for Smash *and* Hyrule Warriors (another major game that sold very well), and Nintendo has also likely selected many of them because they'll be used in not just the games on that list, but in titles that havent even been announced yet.

Game & Watch and Ness are both very much "niche" characters that simply wont fit into anything; they'd be a hard sell, really. Earthbound is a well known game.... but only by JRPG fans. Particularly because of the fact that it's downright ancient at this point, as the series died out a long while ago. Alot of players havent the foggiest clue what he's from unless someone told them, and even then they're not likely to have even seen the game itself. And G&W is *really* niche, about as niche as it's possible to get. They're not exactly the sorts of characters that fly off of the shelf. Notice in the Amiibo list, ALL of those are characters that are listed are somehow "current", and relevant enough to sell well. There isnt even one that hasnt been in or associated with a recent game OTHER than Smash.
