Video games still piss me off, and I don't understand how people can have the near-godlike patience required to get 100% completion or log thousands of hours playing a single title. I especially don't get how people can have the patience/reflexes/endurance to excel at things like bullet hells, those super difficult Mario romhacks, or esports.

I play video games to have fun, but when things get really competitive, I can't stand it. It just so happens that a few of my favorite multiplayer games (Super Smash Bros. Melee, Starcraft: Brood War, Quake 3 Arena) have features that have led them to esport status, but I can't see myself actually enjoying them at that level. Starcraft II really turned me off partly because its online really emphasized the esport aspect, and playing Quake 3 online? I could never keep up with the other players who actually knew how to strafejump and all that crap. I much preferred LANning these games with my friends, who weren't all about the advanced techniques and instead played in a more casual fashion.

I used to meltdown a bit when I got upset, when I was younger and first playing video games. Nowadays I don't get upset much.

Certainly, games can cause me to meltdown. Usually when they crash, that just pisses me off so much. There are also annoying parts of certain video games that I just don't have the patience for.

Absolutely, games are probably my number 1 cause of meltdowns, perhaps because I'm usually alone when playing so I don't have to moderate my behavior. To be honest, I enjoy being able to vent without being judged for it. I get so engrossed in what I'm doing I can't help myself.

I used to get mad when I was younger.

Today, I may get frustrated, but I don't break things or throw my controller - which is an accomplishment because I only play Dark Souls/Bloodborne and competitive PvP/fighters.

I attend tourneys a lot and even if I get salty or upset at losing I'm always a sportsman and sincerely congratulate other players.

At the end of the day, "it's just a game."

I only wish I had the type of patience you have.

Yeah, there are times I get frustrated too. I just put it aside and play something else or do something else. I'm playing "Legend of the Dragoon " on the PS1 for now and the final boss battles are tough so I know I have to beef up my players a but. It is repetitious so if it gets too much, I just do it a bit each time. Sure I can "Game Shark" my characters but what is the point in that? The only time I would use a Game Shark is for "save anywhere." I have a job and a life and it sure beats going until 3 AM looking for a save point. ;)

hahaha, same...

I actually rage quit and snapped the disc in half, it was from blockbuster too!

I use to be terrible with video games when I was a teen, it's embarrassing to think about. I broke a lot of controllers and made a fool of myself yelling at stupid video game systems, I'm better now and don't do that but my frustration level in general can go 0 to 60 pretty fast.

I don't tend to play 'action-y' games anymore, so that's definitely helped prevent game meltdowns.

Not unless I am already fixing to have a meltdown, but sometimes if I get frustrated, that can be the thing that sets the meltdown off.

If I think that a game is actively pulling BS on me then I will absolutely quit out before a meltdown. I'm good at spotting what is or isn't nonsense. That said, difficult games that are totally fair are the best kind. Dark Souls and Bloodborne are my favourite games ever although I will add that I think those games are probably a little too easy, not too hard.

What bothers me more is that, in multiplayer games, I feel terribly self-conscious.

the last game I broke playing a game was God of War 1 on the ps2 playing challenge of the gods, I got so angry I ejected the game and crushed the cd in my hand. A game over in an rpg caused by idiot ally AI caused the most recent controller break, but I've gotten much much much better at managing my temper since I was a kid.
