You don't have to necessarily be afraid of games that involve fighting and killing if they are not age restricted. I was playing such games at the age of four. I had toy soldiers and tanks and planes and such too.

kids see violence all the time, on tv, in film, hell even in real life sometimes, unfortunately enough. removing violent video games will do little, IMO.

Outside of all those logic and puzzle games across at least three platforms or systems? Hmmm...! !!

1. Classic Sonic games. Or the Adventure duology. Or Generations, take your pick!
2. Pokémon, especially FireRed/LeafGreen or Emerald. Trust me, I feel that Gen 3 is the generation that kickstarted my Trainer life. Or failing that, try Platinum or Heart Gold/Soul Silver!
3. Gran Turismo or some sort of arcade-style racer if your kid is into cars.
4. Same for any high-quality sports titles, as long as your kid is REALLY into sports (Unlike me, of course).
5. Not really a video game, but if you can find them and if your kid can handle enough noise, try some pinball machines.

Of course, these are only some of the things I can think of from my experience. :D

I would've said Katamari Damacy(Da-ma-shi second part of title) series. Great third-person puzzle action game. I'd say be careful with this game. It gets weird cutscenes like "WTF" weird. If a 10 year old is into what most would considered out there. Then they might like it.

Not sure if it's on the network for down load let me know.

The entire Sonic series from start to finish.
You could go ahead with Sonic Mega Collection plus and / or Sonic Gems Collection.

Minecraft

Pokemon. Diamond and Pearl were IMO the last to stick to all the Pokemon games before it. This is noted in its OST and game play. The newer ones aren't bad, they just seem so different, not in a progressive way.

4.
A single game of his / her choice.

Not a "Video" game, but one that is often very enjoyable... He or She will also require Legos... lots of them.

I believe you mean Gen. 4, or Pokemon, DP, HGSS, and Platinum.

They're still around, mostly owned by collecters/enthusiasts though. Google:
pinball festival
if you want to soak up the experience again. Most have an arcade where everything is set to free play w/ admission.

I haven't been in a little while, but last I knew, our Chuck E. Cheese had a pinball machine.

Ha, I found a flyer for it, it's Roller Coaster Tycoon:

Like a lot of machines there, though, it seemed like it was "out of order" half of the time =|

Also, The Pinball Arcade is a pretty great pinball sim. It's not 100% authentic, but it's about as close as you're going to get, and where else are you going to play so many classic tables??

huh...most of those seem to be in texas, but i did find this in santa clara, just a couple hours away by bus:

http://www.caextreme.org/

might check it out when the time comes. might.

aside from the ones i see on craigslist, they seem to live on here mostly as slightly more intricate gumball machines. probably not authentic.

You've got to play final fantasy x (final fantasy ten)

Though you might understand it better at say 12 years old

Minecraft is definitely a good pick, likewise most Nintendo games. Mario and kirby are good picks. The LEGO games are good too, there are many of those across all different platforms. Rhythm games are also good.

I'd say with regards to any RPGs kids should have a basic understanding of how game systems work. That said, I'd personally recommend Dragon Quest IX. It's a cheap DS game that's accessible and the visuals are great. There is also a game called Dragon Quest Builders recently announced for localisation - it's a cross between Dragon Quest and Minecraft, I'll be buying it day one for my Vita. That may be somethig worth looking into as it's basically Minecraft with RPG elements.

this is true for the most part, but i'd stay well away from skyward sword.

i imagine even a newborn would feel as though his intelligence is being insulted when playing that.
