That aside, I've mostly been playing the campaign and challenges (trying to get cheevos for different photos). I dont really care for the multiplay since I've only encountered "Zerg" strategies. Been quite annoying . . . that, and I have a defensive mindset. Granted, guess it'll just take practice.

What race did you play? Starcraft 2 is mainly an online game :)

He said the campaign and challenges. That is the single player portion of Starcraft 2 and it's not necessarily on-line, unless you're wanting to get the achievements.

implying he has played multiplayer.

Also i do know the difference between online and offline, thank you.

I'm sorry, but no PC game no matter how good should cost 60 dollars. That's an outrage.

Starcraft is MUCH more then "a PC game"! Its becoming a true (e)Sport!

The community behind the game is real big and most of the people are good mannered. Starcraft 2 has a very steep learning curve and will keep you enjoyed for a very long time.

60 dollar for years of entertainment? Its a bargain!

Agreed. $60.00 is a drop in the ocean for the value I get out of that game. You can easily spend $60.00 for a single night out, for all the nights in I spend on SC2...

Hi, just introducing myself. I'm a total noob at RTS; SC2 is my first. So I have hundreds of games under my belt but I'm still 4-ever bronze. :( Probably because I went straight from campaign to playing the ladder as zerg and losing 90% of my matches the first few months. Anyhow, I figure I can start with a clean slate with HotS.

I love love love SC2, watch streams and tournaments and read strategy and whatnot. Big fan of Day9 (he's gotta have ADHD btw).

Hope maybe we can have some neat discussions here, what do you think?

Sure :)

First off, on what server do you play? USA, EU or any other?

I'm on EU. Was thinking of getting a US account too, depending on when HotS comes out.

Mind giving me your character ID? I`m on EU also, we can play together. Since you`re bronze i can offer some help. I`m platinum myself.

You can PM me if you dont want it to be on the web.

Another NA player here: SgtHatred 850

My favorite are 4v4s, but I play all quick matches. Would be nice to get a team going, as im getting tired of being creamed by pre-mades.

Terran is the best overall race imo, but others are good at specific things. I am currently exploring some new cheap protoss strats.

I'd love to see this thread take off!
Back in Brood War I was completely uninterested in the RTS game proper, I created and played use map settings games. In SC2 I got into the actual game and now it's the only game I play. In 1v1 I'm currently Silver but I play on a lot of 2v2 teams with my friends and we generally place in Gold and Platinum.
Honestly though I think going straight from campaign to ladder is the best thing you can do. Personally I didn't even finish the campaign. Also if you have someone to coach you over skype, maybe in a 2v2, then it increases your learning dramatically. Unfortunately I'm in the North American server, otherwise I would add you. It sucks that it isn't universal matching. I know latency isn't an issue because I play from Japan with no issues.
One interesting tip I got from a Master level player is putting all your production buildings on one hotkey and just cycling through them with tab.
I started as Terran but now I'm getting better with Protoss, haven't played Zerg too terribly much.

I used to play a lot, but ultimately found it too stressing to pull through alone. I had a decent network when I played Dota and with the Dota 2 beta being released I haven't felt SC2 drawing me much anymore. I do watch GSL though, since SC2 is a much better spectator sport than Dota. I might be persuaded to play a few games though...

It's kinda strange, when I stopped playing Dota I told myself I'd never have to deal with demented allies anymore. =D Never imagined I'd be missing those. Also, I think the improved mechanics of Starcraft 2 compared to 1 gives players the illusion that it's easy and they can get good at it.

Perk of playing zerg is all your stuff comes from hatcheries. So all hatcheries as one control group and then just learn the hotkeys for different units :) I really should start hotkeying my queens though....

I play as zerg. I don't play as much I used to, I mainly just do 4v4 for fun these days.

Thanks for that tip sabotai, that will reduce my micro big time

Tips for terran:
- you can set scvs to auto repair by right clicking on repair, tell them to follow your mechanical units and they will fix them during battle
- scvs can repair protoss units and maybe structures too, so u can help an ally

I like zerg for expanding real fast because of cheap hatcheries

I don't actually own Starcraft 2, but I like to watch casts of games on sc2casts.com. I follow it like a sport. I'm not sure whether I'm willing to pay money to watch the big games live, though. I also follow fighting games at shoryuken.com.

I get really excited whenever some new strategy is figured out and becomes standard. I love the idea of a community of people figuring out the optimum ways to exploit a game.

Anion pulse Crystals: New upgrade for the Phoenix, it adds +2 to range, researched at the Fleet Beacon, 150/150 cost, 90 second research time.

I think this is awesome, it gives a real incentive to actually invest in a Fleet Beacon, naturally progressing to more Carrier and Mothership play?

Could this mean they will have no reason to replace Carriers with that stupid Tempest unit in Heart of the Swarm?
From what I understand the Tempest was designed mainly to counter Mutalisks late game, but that is the main function of this upgrade, with it Phoenixes fill that roll extremely well--arguably too well but we'll see. I predict it might get nerfed to +1 range eventually.

One thing I read about Carriers is they overlap too much with Colossi, countered by the same units as well.

With the new incentive to get a Fleet Beacon perhaps Carriers will see more use as the Colossus of the air path Protoss...
