Splatoon |OT| Wii U boxes covered in colors confirmed!
The second mode is defend the tower that will be available at launch.
Also matching making by rank will also be available at launch as well
Ranks are determined by leveling with A+ being the best.
There is also a 1v1 local multiplayer where one person uses the gamepad and the other uses the other controller.
By the end of August the other modes will be out as well the other maps.
This patch will also feature match making with friends (launch is random team assignments when playing with friends, as in your teams are random with your friends).
New weapons and such will be released every other week.
The single player mode is true single player (no bots and multiplayer maps) with over 28 distinct levels where you unlock stuff. It also has lots of boss battles.
It is supposed to take quite a few hours to complete.
thanks for the info xeno also I don't know how quotes work so tell me if I did this right I'm

Obviously I'll later look up some of these for the sheer hilarity value of it (are there any specific ones that stand out?) but beyond that the concept here just... I... ugh. UGH.
One of those ideas that just makes me wanna break things.
Everyone always rambling about how stale that genre has gotten even when they're big fans of it. Someone finally does something new. ZOMG CASUALS!! !!!11 is the response. GROAN.
As always, I haaaaaaaaate the usual definition of "casual" and "hardcore". Frankly, most wouldnt know "hardcore" if the concept took physical form, was the size of Godzilla, and proceeded to shriek in their ear.
As for the commercial, if they wanna market towards kids, whatever, but... holy hell. They should at least do it with something that's not like listening to a pile of cats sliding down a chalkboard by their claws.

No, though there is the IGN article whinning about Nintendo abandoning Mario and co. for a game (splatoon) that no one asked for and how Splatoon should have been a new platformer specifically a Mario platformer.

....... Oh my (expletive) god, that is the most backwards complaint. People have been saying for a while now that Nintendo have really needed to create more IPs, and especially lately have felt like they have been way too comfortable with just more Mario.

I went and read that article.
I already posted my gif up above, but consider it as applying to this as well. It earned it quite nicely.
What got me the most though: The comments. Where everyone is like "WTF? Did you not even look at the game?" or "...but it has the platforming and stuff. We've seen it already" or "It's creative and new! Why *dont* you want that?!?" and so on. Pretty much EVERY comment seemed to be something along that line.
Pretty hilarious.
I mean, granted, I kinda expect stuff like that from IGN, but still...

Actually people normally react negatively when Nintendo unveils new IPs, screaming about how Nintendo has abandoned them and the games they love to create these new IPs.
Every new Nintendo IP produced since N64 has encountered this negative reaction, including Smash Bros 64.
The biggest complaint on Wii and DS was how Nintendo abandoned their core IPs for new IPs thus leading to Wii and DS becoming casual systems.
IGN posted a 3 page article back in November of 2008 about how Nintendo had abandon the hardcore in favor of casuals and women.

I read that article too. Again, gif already used.
And I had to stop and take a break when I got to the part where they say that the one "hardcore" game in 2008 was Smash Brawl. I cant process that one right now. Some fuses were blown.
I just.... really, I think people have completely and utterly lost track of what "casual" and "hardcore" even mean anymore. Super easy games with infinite lives and regenerating health are "hardcore" because they're all dark and bloody now (despite, you know, the super easy part); very difficult games that take tons of practice are often "casual" because colors. Yet randomly, people will just flip these over when describing certain things. Just.... argh.
The Global Test Fire is a bust due to the servers being overloaded by those seeking match.
The good news is this game is popular enough to crash the servers globally...!
With that said I made it to level 15 on the squid jumping mini game and I found out this:
Red Fish will shoot you further up
Blue Octopus lets you jump while in the air
Star Fish give you a huge speed boost

They released a new extended commercial/trailer, it feels super 90s, but it is much better than before, probably the best they could hope for one with singing. The only time they put something close to that terrible "Your a kid now, your a squid now" is when they say "your an Inkling kid who can change to a squid". I see people saying that it largely captures the essence.
Actually I saw a comment saying that the Australian commercial was not bad, I don't watch a lot of tv, so I checked it out and found that it looks largely taken from the old trailer, which is good. Maybe not a big deal to everyone, but I think possibly a cultural difference that USA needed the song.
Also, I don't think I have said this before, but I have had not plans to join in on this test fire, the reason being that I know it is largely stress testing of the servers, and I want my first experience to be the full game rather than what might happen. Plus I don't know about memory because I filled up a lot with downloading a game.

The test fire went fine once the servers started working right.
Though you can plug in an external hard drive to your Wii U, though beware the Wii U will format the hard drive and delete any and all files and partitions you have on it.
It will also prevent you from using a partition.
I have a 320GBs hard drive plugged into my Wii U, which I have used about 40 GBs.

That 30-second one was muuuuuuuuch better. The longer one was... still really annoying. Though, that doesnt say too much coming from me as I tend to find pretty much any song with lyrics to be annoying. Also, seemed kinda long for a commercial.... or maybe not? Do they get that long now? I havent watched TV in so long that I dont know how to work the cable boxes or whatever they even are these days.
Already did the pre-order for the download for mine, after finding the stupid cards for it at the local Meijer. Not exactly put in the most noticable spot, those. Might not be able to try the multiplayer stuff right away, which is annoying. Have to head up to Wisconsin for a few days; the thing will have time to register the release just before I leave though, so I can still do the single-player stuff at least. Not sure if the modem and overall connection at that house is good enough for multiplayer anything.
The actual download didnt take that long at least, was done pretty quickly for being a few gigs. Or however big it was, I wasnt really paying attention.

Well the 30 second one is apparently the one for my country, really does seem like a condensed version of the E3 trailer, with the same feel. The longer one is probably more of what you call a trailer, and Nintendo have it marked as "extended", which makes me wonder what the deal is there seems to be a knowledge that their tv commercial bombed since comments were actually disabled and there were more dislikes than likes, while there is a more positive reaction to this extended one. They are still made with a younger audience in mind, but someone really screwed up with the tv version beyond making something that gets stuck in your head.

Ugh, Metacritic. I hate that site. Even when it's being positive.... I still hate that site.
Either way though, cant wait to have a go at it myself. What time does it go live? I'll probably just play ever more Binding of Isaac until it becomes playable, as if I havent played enough of that lately already.
...and I'm already anticipating being quite tired of hearing people complain about a lack of voice chat and such.
