I just started playing TF2 today and it was a good time. I wasn't totally sure what I was supposed to be doing. So I just lit people on fire, or exploded them with this explodey rod thingamajigger I looted off of somebody. It was some good mindless fun. Maybe later I will actually learn how to play hehe.

Solly is kind of growing on me, especially the pairing SollyxMedic mainly because I could totally see Solly being a bit racist towards him and butting heads with him a bit, even if Medic was not a Nazi (In my opinion I think that he was, but Valve did not want to say that he was so it wouldn't get banned in Germany which already had to be heavily censored already. Mainly because he lived around that time period and probably had no choice in the matter, though, on the other hand, if he wasn't, Medic's reason would probably be "Nazis? They're overrated... Sure, I guess they did bad stuff, but I mean, Josef Mengele? Pfft... You call what he did torture? I can do much better than him, besides, HAS HE EVER MADE A MEDIGUN THAT HEALS WOUNDS IN A MATTER OF SECONDS AND MAKES YOU AND ANOTHER PERSON INVINCIBLE FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN CHARGED? Hmph, see? I think not...")

My college had a little expo where all of the student groups and other local organizations come together and basically give out information and free stuff (I got two huge cans of energy drinks and dots, it's practically Halloween!) And of course, the Engineering club was there showing off their cool hybrid go-kart and recruiting members. I was grabbing candy from their table and they were like "Do you want join our club? We can use more girls in it." My response?

"Do you build sentries?" I was suprised that they didn't understand what I was talking about considering how nerdy I thought they were...

I've heard that the Medic is an ex-Nazi, but Valve denies it because people would get offended. Apparently they were just going for the crazy German doctor stereotype (which I did not know existed until now!)

Have you even heard about the German version getting heavily censored just to even get released over in Germany? Heck, they had to censor all the blood and gore and everything to get the game released over there and then if you reveal that Medic is an ex-Nazi and the fact that you can actually play him? Medic being an ex-Nazi alone would have caused the game to be immediately banned when Valve already had a hard time getting it to be released over there in the first place, therefore, it would make sense for them to deny it despite the fact that Medic and his behavior very much resembles Josef Mengele infamous for performing cruel experiments on prisoners, including vivisections.

But yeah, Josef Mengele, look him up.

Germany censors everything into ridiculousness. The reason we have party mode is because that's standard issue in Germany. Germans are so afraid of being associated with the Nazi Party that displaying a swastika is a jailable offense.

And while I appreciate the sentiment and the desire to distance oneself from history's most reviled hatemongers, isn't that kind of despotic behavior what the Nazis were all about? Censorship, Incarceration, Suppression of Freedoms, Suppression of Art, that sort of thing?

I'm gonna stop this before someone gets the wrong impression.

I've probably played around 4 hours worth of TF2 by now. I'm not good at all. Still figuring out all the keys and functions and stuff but using a mouse and keys really is aggrivating... I'm curious to know if anyone uses a controller to play TF2. I have an Xbox 360 controller but no cord, so I have thought about buying one so I can use it on the PC to play TF2. I've read mixed reviews about using a controller for FPS's on the PC so if anyone has some experience please reply!

I don't use a controller and using the keyboard is great once you get used to it. It was hard because sometimes I would press the wrong keys and playing the game with a trackpad was also hard until I figured out the right control settings that worked best.

Also, I don't know if you guys know this, but I'm selling Pyro purses and Balloonicorn pillow pets and I really hope I can get a mic because my built-in one is terrible.

And, yeah, it seems that Germany is trying so hard to erase the past that it's become ironic.

I totally understand... I'm a poor college student myself.

Definitely, it is quite ironic, makes me wonder if we ever will move on from WWII... Not in the sense that we ever will forget it, but to the point where it no longer really offends us in any way. At this rate, I wouldn't be suprised if like, two hundred years go by and people still can't get over it. I mean, even though Stalin killed way more people, all of the Communist and Soviet Union references in the game with Heavy? Perfectly fine...

I don't have proper positioning for my keyboard and mouse atm so that's one of the main reasons I'm not doing so well. Any idea how much a level 30 manmelter "Flame Thrower" is worth?

It's not worth much. Smelt two weapons of the same class you don't want into a scrap metal, and chances are you'll be able to trade the scrap for a Manmelter. Be careful, though, free-to-play players can't use the trade feature.
Personally, I don't much like that weapon, because it takes forever to charge.

ROCKET JUMPING 101
------------------------------------------------------

1. Watch "TF2 Rocket Jumping 101" video on YouTube.
2. Browse several TF2 forum topics that teach you how to rocket jump.
3. To get maximum height, jump, crouch, and fire at the same time.
4. Open up a jump map on TF2 and enter the beginner course.
5. Jump, crouch, and fire at the same time.
6. HL2.exe freezes.
7. HL2.exe unfreezes.
8. You jump less than half the height of the destination platform.
9. Repeat 1-8 several times.
10. Ragequit.

Yes, I play TF2. A lot.

And by "a lot" I mean "way too goddamn much". Uhuh.

I've found the best way to do it is to look down, and both fire AND jump at the same time. Or, if you have 50 cents handy, buy The Rocket Jumper, and create yourself a local server to mess around it. It's honestly the kind of thing that does very quickly become second-nature.
