There were some hints of a sequel through a weird arg that leads to some ascii art, a new achievement in the game and how portal has a new ending; but they've officially announced that portal 2 is real and by what game stop says it will be released on the 26 of october.
before it was deleted gamestop's description of portal 2 was a little longer while saying that GlaDOS was still alive (sorry couldn't help myself) they also mentioned a multi-player co-op mode with two new characters, with their own self contained story and unique puzzle rooms only for co-op mode.

here's this months game informer cover.

from the cover art of the game informer mag some have implied that the portals in the next game may send you through time as well as space, if you look closely the wall for both the blue and orange portal is identical, hinting that you may be going through the same area of the facility when it is still new to a time when it's overgrown and decrepit.

Although personally I hope that they keep time travel out of the game but if it is included I'll overlook it for the awesomeness that this game will provide.

I don't know why this thread doesn't have more replies!
I absolutely can't wait for Portal 2. I haven't been this excited about a release since waiting for harry potter at midnight at barnes&noble hahaha.

Actually, the article states that parts of the Aperture Science building have collapsed during the years Chell spent in suspended animation (it's supposed to take place in the same universe as Half-Life, sometime after the events of Half-Life 2). As for GLaDOS's survival, I thought that was pretty well established by the ending song (which is much harder to play in Rock Band than you'd think...). Of course, in the new one, there are other AIs as well - the other personality cores that were activating during the closing credits of Portal - and it also becomes necessary for GLaDOS to work with Chell once again, whether she wants to or not. :-)

Portal 2's release date has has been moved to next year. :(

Still, I'm a huge Valve fanatic so I'm looking forward to this.
(Though I still wish they'd announce something - anything about Half Life 2: Episode 3!)

Yes, I was quite annoyed when I found out since I pre-ordered believing it would release on schedule.

this was my reaction when I first heard about it:

Although I'm kinda glad they did hold back on it, this means that valve is focused on releasing a polished product rather than cutting corners for a holiday release.

Whoops, I did double 'has' in my last post. o.O

Anyway, I believe another reason the release date has been moved may be due to it being released also on PS3, perhaps?
