Hi everybody,

I am planning to DM a party of around four in a few months on a homemade roleplay system, based upon AD&D. I am looking for some firsthand experiences on DM'ing here.

My compliments on your low-key leadership! :D Or, what I call low-key leadership, maybe is just respectful leadership.

One note, not everyone who accepts invite will show up and I recommend just graciously accepting that. And if too few people, perhaps abbreviate the event and invite the smaller group into town to get a sandwich or rent a video. (for me, having this kind of back-up makes me more comfortable)

Note: My experience is with other events.

First rule of DMing: The players will always come up with something you never thought of.

1) Keep it moving bored players will never show up a second time
2) Don't let players try to run other people's character
3) If a player is not ready skip them then come back to them when they are ready
4) Preperation is key have everything planned out before your players show up
5) Always give you players a way out
6) Crack down on rules lawyers
7) Don't be afraid to slap hands if things get out of hand like make a player's character get injured or loose something when they are being bad
8 ) Paizo Fumble or critical cards are fun

I was a gamemaster from 1981-1995. A player from 2007-10 I got some experience on both sides of the GM screen. I also have a ton of scarry and funny stories about my experiences in roleplaying games.

Thanks for the tips and do tell some scary stories, I've been a player for 3 years and I want to see if they are comparable.

Also, since this is your first time DMing with new players, make sure you do a TPK first session to establish your authority.

Always bring spare dice, and don't worry about getting any of it back.

:lmao:, that'll show them who's boss.

Nah, I am playing with a few close friends who don't need to be put into place. But as the game progresses they undoubtedly will try.
