My Game Boy is right here, perfectly functional after almost (really, almost) two decades.
It was my first experience with video games. My mom got me a blue Game Boy for Christmas (with English language games, were there many German releases back then anyway?) and I was captured. I'm not exactly sure what year that was... I had to have been either 6 or 7 years old, so 1994 (likely) or 1995.
I harboured no interested in TV back then because I had trouble understanding the audio and the images on screen were hard to take in (in case of shows for older children) or bored me (watching 5 minutes would have been a miracle).
However, being able to manipulate moving images by pushing buttons? Now that was amazing.
Consequentially, I spent a lot of time playing it. Not obsessively so my mom never had to restrict it. I enjoyed playing but I didn't have the attention span necessary to play more than half an hour to an hour perhaps.
For the longest time, my favourite game was Kirby's Dream Land 2. Hamsterpower!
