Personal notes: Don't buy Persona 1. Especially if you've never played the other games before. Devil Survivor is really, really fun too.

If you haven't yet played any MegTen game yet and/or aren't into grinding, you might want to start with Persona 3 on PSP. On 3DS/DS, the same applies to Devil Survivor or the remake called Devil Survivor: Overclocked.

If you don't mind grinding, start with the PSP version of P3 anyway, it's extremely hyped (though I don't share the hype much). No idea of what's on the PSN for wherever you live, sorry.

Best MegTen game in my opinion is SMT: Lucifer's Call/Nocturne (PS2). Though DSO has a super special place in my heart.

Admittedly, I rather like Kyuuyaku and If... But they haven't been translated into english. Nocturne/Lucifer's Call is is probably the best overall even though haven't finished it.
It's such a great series!

Is Kyuuyaku a snes remake of the nes games? I agree SMT is an excellent series, I really enjoy the deep storyline and feel like the choices you make, even in the earlier games, actually matter. I also love how there is neither good nor evil, but instead duality. I prefer going chaos because I'm very free willed and always viewed law as far too rigid and totalitarian but both sides have their good traits.

SMT and its spinoffs are the only games I can get excited for at all anymore.

Actually, if you have a ps3, I recommend downloading FES. It's much cheaper(only $10), it actually has the proper graphics and cutscenes, and I prefer its battle system, despite the lack of direct battle commands. Plus, when you return to the lobby in P3 FES, all your hp and sp are restored, whereas in P3P, it's not, which is a confusing design choice, given that the game should have been made more convenient for portable gaming, not less convenient. I could list all my problems with P4, a lot of which made their way into P3P, but that'd take a while. I do miss fusion spells though. I say, P3 FES is the definitive male version of P3. I'd only recommend P3P for the female version. I would recommend trying P4 too. If you plan on getting a Vita, you should probably wait for that version.

I never quite got into Devil Survivor, but Overclocked is the definitive version, and is available for the 3DS. A 3DS will play Devil Survivor 2, due to b/c. Same with Strange Journey, but I'm not sure how easy it is to find at this point. Those last few recommendations will only work if you eventually get a 3DS. Unfortunately, the majority of ps2 Megaten games are inaccessible to you, due to lack of b/c. I'd start with FES though. It's easy to acquire, and won't hurt your wallet too much. Plus, it's one of my favorite games of all time, and it'll take you quite a while to finish all of it, if you play through the Answer too(probably well over 100 hours).
