Can you describe your feelings while playing video games?

As simple as that - I just think that the feelings we experience, even though we aren't entirely conscious of them, contribute so much to whatever we're doing...

My video gaming mini-story, if anyone's interested: used to play mainly RPGs in my early teens, until I couldn't 'feel' them anymore. There was some drastic change all of a sudden which made me realize that I played them only because of all the amazing feelings I used to experience... otherwise they're just chores, really. And RPGs are so tender... every one of them an artistic masterpiece in their own right, that I couldn't just play them if I couldn't really experience them. Hope someone knows where I'm coming from...

Excited for sports and game shows; focused on everything else.

When I play the games I play, I become immersed in the gameplay, especially with first person adventure games like Skyrim. And I oftentimes become the character, as it were. I find it to be a nice retreat from the stresses of everyday life.

My emotions during gameplay usually reflect my emotional state prior to engaging.

I get very attached to my games. I don't really feel like I become the character but I often put myself in the characters shoes, wondering how being in their situation would feel. For example, this happens to me all the time when I play super metroid. I always wonder how it feels being in such a deserted planet filled with nothing but mutated space creatures. My imagination ends up scaring myself XD.

I do not know... Focused? Entertained?

In relation to this, has anyone ever tried to compile a list of video games and the feelings they evoked? e.g. chivalry in FF9 due to Steiner and Beatrix (in addition to a rollercoaster ride throughout, of course) and fantasy-induced calmness in Threads of Fate.

I think it could be a good exercise... of course, it'd be difficult to find appropriate adjective, but then, won't it be worth it if we can find names for the feelings that would be lost in time if we never described them?

How I feel when I'm playing a video game?

i don't really feel truly connected to the game unless im alert. once im in the game, replays of event in my mind occur and all of those negative feelings resurface. other times, i feel calm and focused.

When I get really invested in a game I am able to shut out all other concerns about the outside world. It is much the same feeling as reading books for me. I need that escape. When the game is mediocre I get frustrated with the game for not being immersive enough to put me in that mind state.

It depends which game and when I play it.

Depends on the type of game. FPS - I'm extremely competitive and get psyched up on adrenaline. RTS - mildly entertained as I never take RTSs seriously. RPG - again, mildly entertained, but in a different sort of way than RTS as RPGs usually have some sort of quest you have to conquer with your character.

I guess I tend to feel imersed, I guess imersed enough that I get a little too scared from horror games, though I am getting better, I also do find it hard to do pretty mean things. I think I get the excitment of exploring, I like to look around amd be able to see what is comming, I guess that is why I don't like something else jumping out. I have been playing Halo 4 multiplayer and been choosing to be mostly stealthy, I guess it feels good when I am watching other people run around like headless chickens, while I am watching their moves and hitting them at the right time, so feeling of supeirority.

In a number of games I get quite frustrated at being continusly bombarded by waves, I guess I most of the time just want the enemies to stop, but afterwards I tend to be quite happy with the acomplishment more so than of it was just easy street.

I feel like a super hero when i play video games...

When it comes to FPSs and Fighters, I go into full focus mode, since I got a twitch trigger and have a bad tendency to make mistakes if I don't. RPGs and puzzle games are my relaxing games. Games like Devil May Cry and Dark Souls I go into full badass mode and just wipe everything out. With rythym games like Rocksmith, I get into the music to the point where my metalhead breaks free and headbangs ensue.
