Has anyone ever tried Portal 2? A description:

Quote:
It picks up the story of Chell an unspecified number of years after the events of the first game. The Aperture Science Enrichment Center has fallen into ruin, and Chell is awakened from cryogenic sleep by Wheatley, a talkative Personality Core who needs her help to escape the lab. While roaming the remains of the facility, the two accidentally repower GLaDOS — who is, needless to say, not too happy to see Chell again. GLaDOS puts Chell right back into a series of test chambers while she works on getting the Enrichment Center to rebuild itself, while Wheatley continues to attempt to engineer an escape.

During the course of the game, much is revealed about Aperture Science's backstory — as well as the backstory of its founder, Cave Johnson, and several other characters. The game introduces new environments, including the ruins of the Enrichment Center from the first game, the abandoned facilities of the original Aperture Laboratories, and a haphazard and idiotic renovation of the modern test chambers. While the game is still fairly linear, it offers a lot more room for exploration and many puzzles involve getting from one test chamber to the next, not merely solving the challenges within.

Looks like a challenging game..........

Absolutely! I highly recommend it. A great game that is ever so challenging. Great puzzles, story, and characters. If you want play portal One first. It's short... Very short but loads of fun. U might need to play it first but not likely to understand the story. Now start thinking with portals!

I hear there is a DLC for the game called Perpetual Testing Initiative. I think it is a precursor to before the events of Portal. I can tell because of more Cave Johnsony goodness

Serious Spoilers May Occur When Watching This.

Here are subs for one line that wasn't recorded, here it is:
"Greetings, friend. I'm Cave Johnson, CEO of Aperture Science. As you've no doubt learned after your time in cryosleep, human civilization as we knew it was utterly destroyed over a thousand years ago. We've attempted to rebuild as best we could with the only remaining book on the planet... [sigh]"The Rock Says", the autobiography of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking."

wish I was capable of making that one up, check for yourself in: Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2_dlc2\resource\subtitles_english.txt

The link only works on YOUR browser when you've gotten the DLC.

these are from the game.. from what I know there is no other DLC other than the new level creator which is what you are talking about. I am not sure if it is a precursor or not.. but it is fun either way you look at it.

Amazing game, I've played it for 100+ hours.
Even though I've played the story around 5 times now, the perpetual testing initiative keeps me interested.

How easy is this game, BTW?

Its more of a puzzle / logic game - sometimes its very straightforward, sometimes it takes quite a bit of thinking and a little trial and error to succeed. You can die a few different ways (mostly by falling off of a platform) but that happens rarely and your lives are unlimited - if you die you just get reborn close to where you died. Mostly though you can just get stumped not being able to figure out what to do next. Occasionally you need to do something that requires some timing or coordination, but nothing too difficult.

Here's a bit of background and a quick example. You are in a room / 3D level, and you have a portal "gun". The gun can shoot a blue portal and an orange portal onto surfaces. If you walk through the blue portal, you end up coming out the orange portal, and if you walk through the orange portal, you emerge from the blue portal. So an example of a simple portal level is when you are in a room that contains a chasm too wide for you to jump across, and you need to get to the other side to reach the exit for the level. In this case you would create, say, the blue portal on the side of the room where you currently are, and put the orange portal on the other side of the chasm. Then you'd walk through the blue portal, emerging from the orange portal on the other side of the chasm, where you could then walk to the exit. That's a very basic example - the game gets more complicated than that, but that should give you an idea.

I agree with those above - play Portal 1 first. Then play Portal 2 (basically the same game but with different levels) and then do the perpetual testing part of Portal 2 (basically community made levels for the game).

You should try it. It's better than the original Portal, it challenges your brain, and it is chock full of wry, dark humor. I'll have you know that Portal and Portal 2 used to be my special interest before TF2.

There are two things that can happen if you play this game.

1) You get infuriated with the puzzles being so hard and you dislike the game and think it's a waste of money.
2) You find the puzzles a good challenge and you enjoy the story, humor and puzzles until the end.

It all depends on how your brain responds to the kind of puzzles it provides. Playing the first Portal, which is cheaper and sometimes even free, will give you an idea if you will like Portal 2

There are only 4 speaking characters in the game and 2 of them are per-recordings playing through a speaker system. The game did win awards for its characters and voice acting though and I know I personally enjoyed the humor and the way the other 2 characters interacted with each other. I think it is, at points, more important that the puzzles.

Portal 2 is probably the funniest comedy game I've ever played, a welcome break from a usually action/thriller medium.

Wheatly and Cave Johnson are just fantastic in that game.
