Board Games. Anyone play?

Hi:

Anyone play board games? After downloading Carcassone for the ipad, i became addicted so i downloaded other european board games like Money and Samurai. Then I became curious about the actual board games. My first board game purchase since well since never, since my parents bought me monopoly and Life, etc when I was a kid, was Arkham Horror. One can play this solitaire. Lots of rules and subrules that are confusing, but there is a forum on boardgamegeek with long time players with rules rulings, I got spoiled with the instant setup and quick play of the ipad. Setting up and rolling dice and moving around pieces and bookkeeping gets tedious. others I bought were Dawn of the Zeds, Nemo's Wars, Silverton and Loyang. Only Loyand gets replay from me. I'm interested in some of the more popular European board games being ported to the Ipad.

I love playing board games especially monopoly,scrabble,frustration and twister (if twister counts as a board game lol) i've got about twenty- five different games sitting in my room

I love playing board games. I do find it hard to play as much now as I used to. I have young kids and they make game playing difficult. I usually get together monthly for a game night with some friends. My all time favorite is Axis and Allies. I have begun playing Munchkin alot and am planning on getting a new game this weekend. I was actually leaning towards getting Arkham Horror or the new Walking Dead game. I wanted to get these games because I can play them solitaire.

I like The Game of Life, Monopoly, and Monopoly City.

i have a neighbor that collects boardgames,

usually we play chess, running 3 sets without time over tea or cofee while listening to music.
tonight we had a game of Go (served chai), im gonna start leaning shogi one evening when i can muster the concentration.

we also play some nordic tafl games, tablut and Hnefatafl.

Connect 4, Chutes and Ladders, Life, I am especially good at chess.

Loopin' Louie and Clue.

I have a fairly extensive collection of boardgames--mostly the German varieties.

I tend to favour games with significant replay value. For example, while I loved Betrayal at House on the Hill when it came out, once you have played out the scenarios, the replay value diminishes.

I have a wide list of favourites. I've grouped them in pretty arbitrary themes.

Abstract - games whose object isn't an analog for a larger objective

Blokus
Quirkle

Build/Economic--games whose object is to build, be it a town, network or empire, but where resource management is not a core game mechanic.

Carcassonne -- really good two player rules
Citadels -- quick and simple
Saint Petersburg
Thurn und Thaxis
Ticket to Ride
Vikings -- an underrated gem!
Zooloretto

Cooperative--games where players must work cooperatively against an external threat, although one or more players may be a traitor to the rest

Card and Deck Building--games where the central mechanic of the game is management of a hand/deck of cards

Munchkin and its many, many, many expansions...

In October 2012, I reconnected with some high school friends for a game night. We played vanilla Munchkin and vanilla Catan. Now I'm hooked, and I travel to my friend's house- a 90 min bus commute- just about every week.

In my personal collection I have 7 Cthulhu Mythos games: Arkham Horror, Elder Sign, Cthulhu Rising, Do You Worship Cthulhu?; also Cthulhu versions of Fluxx, Gloom, and Munchkin. I also have Star Fluxx, Tsuro, Castle Panic, Zombie Dice, and a Warhammer 40k card game called Death Angel. On my wishlist are: Mansions of Madness(full-on RPG in Fantasy Flight's Call of Cthulhu series), Alhambra, Planet Steam, Letters from Whitechapel, and Relic(a 40k boardgame based on Talisman). I'm also preparing for the Elder Sign expansion which will drop in the next few months. As you can see, I should probably hold stock in Fantasy Flight Games.

We watch Wil Wheaton's Youtube series Tabletop and we've played quite a few of the games featured thereon.

Axis & Allies

I love board games. I have Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit (80s edition), Upwords (a version of Scrabble where you can stack tiles to make words) and Cat-Opoly (Monopoly with cats! )

I play strategy games (chess and its variants, although I have many others) quite a bit. I also find word games enjoyable.

If I'm in a group of three or four, then Settlers of Catan with at least Cities and Knights is generally the game of choice, though. (although I've nearly played with everything from all four expansions before.)

Anything which entirely or primarily relies on luck-based mechanics is usually out from the start; I'm not a fan of Monopoly.
