Was talking to kids at secondary school who said they had mew and could clone it for me in a trade, never happened though

IIRC the only ways to get Mew in the older games was either as part of a special promotion, or using rom-hacks or cheat codes of some type. There've been numerous rumors over the years regarding "other ways" but they turned out to be false.

I have a Mew - but it's from a rom-hacked version of Fire Red.

yeah on OG red I tried intentionally losing on the ship and going back later with surf to a small area near the ship that had a truck. I tried to click on the truck to get mew, nothing happened when I clicked on it

Yeah, the "truck trick" has been disproven as a means to get Mew IIRC.

I cannot verify whether this glitch works or not - pokemon red

Someone made a rom-hacked version of Fire Red called "UltraViolet", which made it possible to get all 151 original pokemon, including exclusive ones that were version-specific, required trading, etc, so it was possible to get them all just playing solo. I've found it to be quite fun. There's also a walkthrough that explains the changes made, and tells you where to find everything.

I only every played the Yellow game & I played it on my desktop comp using an emulator. I don't have great vision so the gameboy screens are harder for me to see. I used a gameshark code to make Mew appear in the grassy patch to the left of Cerulean City. I used another code to buy a few Master Balls for free first & for Mew to be on level 2. I kept the Mew with the best stats which was the first I caught. I don't like using cheats that look like I cheated unless it's the only way to obtain something so I only used Mew while grinding by fighting wild Pokemon & Mew fought none of the in-game trainers. I tested the truck trick by using a gameshark code to make the SS Ann reappear after I obtained the surf HM & badge allowing me to use it outside of battle. The truck was mildly interesting but it's presence there is useless.

By using the emulator I was also able to enter the Red & Blue games to catch the Pokemon I can't officially catch in Yellow. Had to rename my save game file to Red/Blue .sav & open that rom. Graphics were screwed up but when done in the right places the menu still worked & I was able to use fly/teleport/dig/escape rope to warp to a Pokemon center & the graphics looked fine after. Repeated process to go back to Yellow.
I also used another emulator that actually allowed me to trade Pokemon with myself so I could evolve the Pokemon that evolve by trading & I was also able to clone Eeveee & get all three evolutions as well as both HitmonLee & HitmonChan :nerdy:

Yes, my friend Danny traded me one he acquired through Pokemon League.

I've also just Gameshark'd them as my starter Pokemon in several playthrus.

Mew is probably my favourite Pokemon.

It works, there's also variations for getting other Pokemon. It works by altering data in a read table, leaving the value for Mew (or whatever other Pokemon) to be read when the game attempts to start a battle.

Does Mew follow you around like Pikachu would :?: Pikachu's happiness level allows you to be given Bulbasaur but of coarse you could just use another code to make Bulbasaur appear

I decided yesterday to do another Yellow playthrough. There are various patches for the roms that allow all Pokemon to be obtained within the game without using cheat codes. I always avoided those types of patches because they tend to also attempt to balance the game by changing the locations where some Pokemon do appear, change the attacks some learn, & sometimes even change attacks & Pokemon the in-game trainers use. That's too much change for my OCD. I decided to try searching through patches yesterday to see what all is out there. During my last playthrough I used a Gen 2 Graphics patch which enhanced the graphics to kinda be gen 2. Yesterday I found another patch called Yellow Plus that sounded really cool to me anyways. From the description in the readme file

Quote:
Pokemon Yellow Plus is something I threw together so I could try to complete the Pokedex like I never got to as a kid. I had tried to find one already made but all the ones I found added too much new content for my taste, I just wanted a simple 151 hack for Yellow and here it is :)

FEATURES:

Crit rate fixed (1/16 chance and Focus Energy/Dire Hits work properly)
Type effectiveness updated (ghost is now super effective against psychic, poison normally effective against bug, ice not very effective against fire, bug not very effective against poison and ghost)

There are two patches, one that changes the TM Brock gives you into SURF so you can teach it to Pikachu, and the other does not.

Changed Impossible Evo's:
Kadabra evolves into Alakazam at Level 37
Graveler evolves into Golem at Level 37
Machoke evolves into Machamp at Level 37
Haunter evolves into Gengar at Level 37

Missing pokemon added: it listed all the missing ones from the game & ones we had to make choices about like Eevee & also listed where to catch them but I didn't want to bother pasting all that. Location for Mew said~Wild in the last floor of Unknown Dungeon
Underneath that part it said~ All other wild pokemon are same as Vanilla Yellow.
I applied the one that did not change Brock's TM to surf & figure I'll try using the HM when I obtain it & if that won't work I'll use a gameshark code to teach it. I'm barely into it so far but it seems to work & I had applied the Gen 2 Graphics patch as well

No, in Yellow afaik there's only coding for Pikachu to follow you.

Usually I played Red or Blue, instead of Yellow.

Yes, a long long time ago. Using the trick where you get a low-level pokemon with a Special stat of a specific value (I think it had to be 21?) and then you have to fly away from a certain NPC trainer and then go fight a Ditto and have it turn into your Special pokemon, which overwrites some value in memory that causes the trainer battle to be a Mew instead.

I remember the whole time I was doing this I was thinking "this is stupid, this is a wild goose chase, there's no way that Mew is just gonna magically show up" and then I saw a wild Mew and was like :O
