There is also a team working on porting Super Mario to HTML5. So pretty soon you should be able to play it in browser. At least until Nintendo shuts them down.

They're bootleg ROM hacks, nothing more.

Funny, I've just been watching a bunch of videos of these weird pirated hacked games today. One was a terrible-looking NES game of Harry Potter which showed Harry looking like he was abusing Dudley and Uncle Vernon for a change by kicking them around and nothing else. Other games were so lazy that all they did was slap Mario or Pickachu's face onto another game character's body. As amusing as the games are to watch they are very terrible and illegal and could cause a lot of trouble to the real game's developers.

I have also seen fan made video games being sold in a store that sells used games and they go for high price. I once saw a Harry Potter game made for NES and it cost 40 bucks. They make the game and put it in a game cartridge and manage to make a sticker for it. I wonder how they do it. I have also heard you can hack into video games and redo them. I have seen it on youtube.

40 dollars? These games don't look like they're worth 4 dollars! Seriously, don't waste your money on them, they're mostly Action 52-quality.

Nope, they're made by game pirates ;)

Most of them are super lame, but every once in a while you find one that's actually decent.

IIRC, that Sonic one is a graphic hack of Speedy Gonzales.

-I did see some hacks of Sonic games for the Genesis with Classic or Modern Amy Rose in place of Sonic. That was actually pretty cool, and I think they were fan made. But the title and ending screen still say "Sonic the Hedgehog".

-There's another "original" pirated game call Wait and See! It's a Bugs Bunny rip-off based on an old Russian TV show, I think. The Game Over screen is quite disturbing because it ends with the wolf or coyote chasing the Bugs Bunny clone swallowing him up and eating him, and then he taunts you on the screen! The ending is also really stupid, and someone said they had to use a cheat or something to get to it because it's impossible.

-Another disturbing game is a pirated version of The Lion King, where it shows Simba, Timon and Pumba committing suicide when they die!

- Nearly all the endings to pirated games are terrible. You usually get little more than "THE END" or something in hilariously bad Engrish.

There's one for the Atari 2600 that's pretty fun.

There's lots of bootleg games out there. I've seen worse than this, though.

Does anybody remember that absolutely terrible "Sonic 4" ROM game ?
The one which came out years before Sonic 4 was made ?

It was made for the Megadrive, and featured both Sonic and Tails joined together by some kind of springy thing with big rings on each end.
It was hopelessly glitchy though, and completely conked out after a level or two.
I'm guessing that it was probably a really badly done hack of some other game.

;-) That didn't stop some unscrupulous blackmarket dealers from China from flogging dodgy copies of it over Ebay for a while, though.

I've heard of Somari, but not that. Didn't know it sold on eBay.
