I kind of like the Wii U, but it does seem lacking. I don't mind the lower-end hardware though.

Some of these features would make it a lot better:

1. Ability to play Classic and Gamecube Controller compatible Wii games on the Wii U tablet controller.
2. Ability to play Gamecube games on the Wii U tablet controller, without having to repurchase games that I already own.
3. Ability to transfer Virtual Console games from the Wii to the Wii U to be used in Wii U mode.
4. Ability to play Steam games on the Wii U.
5. Ability to install Windows 8 on the Wii U.

6. Actually putting some good games on the Virtual Console.

There are countless classic games that Nintendo hasn't put up yet, and they have NO EXCUSE.

If you're talking about games developed by Rareware; like Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Kazooie, Nintendo couldn't put those on the Wii Virtual Console because they don't have full legal rights to them anymore, since Microsoft owns Rareware now. Nintendo even took down the 3 Donkey Kong Country games that were already on the Wii Virtual Console. I haven't really been following what's been going on with the Wii U Virtual Console though. But the 3DS Virtual Console definitely seems lacking to me.
