As it states in the title. Anyone here play STO (Star Trek Online), or SWTOR (Star Wars the Old Republic). If so what's your favorite faction and character class, and what do you like best and least about the games?

Used to play STO a lot, from before free to play. SWTOR I played for a little while.

STO:
Klingon B'rel Tier 5 (tactical captain)
Federation Magellan Tier 5 (science captain)

I simply do not have anything good to say about STO anymore. Everything that was good and which I liked was systematically ripped away and turned into a brainless cash store/grind game. The game simply has no balance left between ship types nor between 'classes'.... it has all been dumbed and stupefied down into one-cookie-cutter-template template based 100% on DPS which is the only thing that they can peddle for cash in their real money store front.

If that wasn't enough, anything you buy or grind (an insane grind) to acquire will be completely obsolete and nearly useless 2 or 3 months down the line as power-creep'd new ships and weapons are added which everyone rushes to grab to remain competitive.

What was once a game where tactical captains in escorts were extremely weak defensively but had very high burst damage (not sustained..hit and run), engineers in cruisers were active tanks (heal damage they take) and the highest sustained damage and science ships were masters at crowd control and debuffs but had poor firepower (literally a science ship could shut you down and nibble you to death) .... became a game where science and engineer classes and ships were re-designed to be high damage with 'some' leftover flavor abilities of their class and tacticals in escorts became the highest sustained and burst damage plus highest defensive ships in a game universe where the only thing that matters is individual dps (screw teamwork) and having the latest power creeped-up gear.

SWTOR:

Got a Jedi consular and a trooper to max level... then left. The game is literally a voyeur-MMO ... you play with yourself in front of others. Its a single player game with very superficial gameplay mechanics (read: spam high power attack key nonstop) and a bovine missions & progression system (go a then b then c and kill stuff at every waypoint...yay mission over, collect xp). PvP is the same bland experience. This game is literally world of warcraft set in the SW universe.

Nice music tracks though.

I'd suggest you check out Star Citizen as an alternative.

STO: Federation Tactical officer, with a Multi Vector Advanced and a Dyson Science Destroyer.
Klingon Science officer, with a Negh'Var.

Swtor: Jedi Consular, and Imperial Agent.

I haven't played either game in a while, but I might start playing STO again, with Delta Rising.

That's part of the reason why I stopped playing. It's strictly pay-to-win, and the cookie cutter ship builds that you need to stay competitive, are boring. I'd like to equip my ship with phaser arrays, and photon torpedoes, like in the show. But, that's not how you win in STO.
