I got hold of this recently and have been checking it out. Still don't really have a handle on the new mechanics yet, but it seems smooth and well polished. Any thoughts/opinions on this game?

I like Metal Gear, but I suck at missions where you have to be out of sight. Snake Eater is still my favorite Metal Gear Solid game. My problem is I rush through those kinds of missions because I want to play the rest of the game as soon as possible.

I love how they used a song by one of my top 10 favorite bands in the trailer! :)

I BARELY managed to clear the main mission, and then the mission "Intel Operative Rescue"...could not do any others. I found the game way too hard for me, which sucks because I love Metal Gear...hopefully Phantom Pain will have easy and very easy difficulties like before, in addition to the chicken hat.

^^Yeah, it seems like the player is expected to do stuff much much faster than in the previous games.

I've played a few other MGS games and this is the only one I've enjoyed. I still dislike the story-telling but the stealth mechanics in Ground Zeroes are extremely solid. If Kojima can tone down the nonsense a little, then Phantom Pain should be great. I managed to complete both objectives on Hard but the extra missions are far more challenging. I'm looking forward to attempting to ghost the whole level. I killed a lot of guards on my first run.

I really liked it, it was the first Metal Gear game I've played. Since then I've got a really good handle on what the whole series is about. Going to obtain some of the older games and play them, I know they've got a different style to them but I'll enjoy them all the same. I watched Snake Eater on youtube to get a feel for them.

I'm in pretty much the same boat, minus having actually played any MGS games. Nonetheless, what I've seen of the story-telling in the MGS series has been off-putting to say the least, but all of the gameplay of Ground Zeroes I've watched has definitely piqued my interest. I'm a hardcore fan of the stealth-action (sub)genre, so the gameplay is a perfect fit for me.
