Whos a fan of this series?

I admit I have only discovered it recently, although I was aware of it for many years.

I have just completed Aria of Sorrow (got the crap ending though, so gonna reload and go for the good ending).

And have since got Sypmphony of the Night, Dawn of Sorrow and Portait of Ruin.

Will play Dawn next since its the sequel to Aria.

I am slowly becoming obsessed with it. Sometimes it hard to think why these games are so fun, it seems they all have pretty much the same gameplay and lame ass storylines. But somehow it grips me. The art and music is also fantastic.

what is everyone fav in the series?

I have been a Castlevania fan for over 20 years. If you have a Wii, you should certainly download the three available on the Virtual Console.

Super Castlevania IV is amazing. It's arcade style Castlevania like the NES original except it has SNES mode-7 graphics.

Castlevania III is my favorite. Much as I liked Symphony of the Night, I do like me some classic action platforming.

I also tend to think Lament of Innocence was underrated.

Well the later games would normally have an unlockable character with the vampire killer.

I've very much a big fan of the Castlevania series since SC IV.
Haven't liked the 3d ones nearly as much as the 2d ones. Pretty much all the 2d ones are Castleroids(Metroid styled gameplay). Same thing every game, but like you said it doesn't really get boring.

There's a new game coming, Order of Eccelsia. It'll be another 2d DS one so I'll be getting it.
In the meantime I'm gradually chipping away at Castlevania III when I get bored. Got to say, I killed by the stairs more often than enemies...

I'm a pretty big fan of the series...the Metroid style ones are starting to drag, though...I can only go through Dracula's castle so many times before I long for some forests and stuff.

II was probably my favorite one...I'm really weird about like #2 in the series the best, especially ones that are so much different from the other games (like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc.).

to me Castlevania on Nintendo is the way to go. the original, Dracula's Curse, Super IV, Aria of Sorrow, can't beat it. the 3D Castlevania's on the Playstation just aren't very good in my opinion. Lament of Innocence bored me to tears. if Castlevania 64 didn't get it right what made you think long boring cutscenes would make it better?

Symphony of the Night was freaking sweet though. i love that game.

Once every two years or so I have to replay Symphony of the Night.
Perhaps the best of 'em all.

The latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine has a good article about the history of Castlevania. Did you know there is an obscure arcade Castlevania game from 1988 called "Haunted Castle"?

The original NES Castlevania has an arcade version too.

I definitely enjoy Castlevania 4 together with the Snes9X emulator.

It's a bit heavy on the resources when it's running together with my old Powerbook G3 (333mhz, 320MB RAM, Debian Lenny) but it works pretty good.

Hah! I got the Saturn version of SotN. I got sh***y graphics, but more stuff than even the new releases (including two new areas, such as they are...).
