So I had an idea and I wanted to run it by you guys and also the mod team and see what everyone thinks. I was thinking maybe we could setup a wp gaming service where we host games on 24 hour servers. Who's servers? My servers, I have a crap ton of bandwidth and a boat load of computers and I can host any game that has a dedicated Linux Server. We could start a public 24/7 Terraria for example and so on, I could host most these games of various Raspberry Pis but I have even beefier hardware for the beefier games. We could have a Minecraft one and so on. We could even have password protected servers that only a wrong planet post has so everyone has to at least have visited Wrong Planet. What do you guys think?
Also for the mods, do you think you could get permission from Alex to use Wrong Planet's name on these servers and make a sticky if and when I have set these computers up to my liking? If not can we name the servers something else and still have a sticky if everyone likes the idea?
I hosted a public server for Terraria on Steam that was up 24/7 and it ran for weeks and I only took it down because of lack of interest. My hardware isn't going to have a lot of downtime though is the point.
The machines all run Arch Linux.
