Star Trek Online
Hey everyone!
I've been playing STO for years. I've deleted characters and rebuilt them over and over again. I think I've got it now. I think I understand the mechanics a bit better.
It's a really good game for an aspie trekkie.
Thing is though, no one seems to want to play on my level and I don't want to go to theirs. They're all about DPS (damage per second); the higher that number is, the better player you are (?). I mean, I guess there's some truth to it. To do 100k DPS takes a lot of patient building and tweaking.
My playstyle is more the tanky healer. I want to take a beating while being able to heal people around me who have the same goal as I do: Destroy the enemy. I also don't want to just sit there and take it, either. I want to rip apart their shields so the rest of the team can take their hull the rest of the way. That's my playstyle.
But people are more interested in speed-runs and DPS than they are about finesse and taking your time and enjoying the game.
I've got some powers that'll let me keep the enemy there while I'm pulling it in the opposite direction while pummeling them with torpedoes. It's quite a sight. Effective, too!
Also, as a long-time trekkie, I really enjoy being in that universe. Of course, the game itself sucks and the graphics are a joke but it has a Star Trek flavor to it which I like.
When I'm feeling anxious and need to be alone but I can't in real life, I'll play the game and have my character sit inside a bubble that's really just a field that you could enter, have your shields recharge and go back fighting. But it's a bubble. I can imagine that I'm sitting in that bubble and it's warm and sound proof. And just sit and breathe.

I played it when it came out, then again when it went F2P. It have matured nicely, it was crap but now it feels more like a MMO (the missions were really repetitive and ultra grindish in the beginning).
Got a few ships and have run a few instances and it feels like a good MMO, the defiant class with big guns is awesome to fight with, the prometheus class is interesting, but i prefer the larger regular ships with much bulk and heavy weapons, also like that the ships have interiors, but they feel incomplete.
Also heard that they put a in-memorandum thing for Leonard Nimoy in the game.

I wish I could play it. It looks like a lot of fun.
