I will NOT quit video games as long as they continue to be fun diversions!! !

Video games are better than a lot of other media formats types like modern music and TV!

That's like the equivalent of asking older people that they're too old to watch "Looney Tunes" or "Tom and Jerry".

....Was that a bad analogy? Sorry about that. :p

No, that's quite correct.

I agree with the guy in the YT video.

A person is never too old to play video games. :)

Unless of course, they lack the mental or physical capacity to do so because of ill health or whatever.

Great video! This is a topic I've kind of struggled with and thought about alot. I used to play a good bit in my teens and twenties but once I hit 33 I kind of stopped. I think some of it was faith reasons and some of it was this topic. I pretty much only play now with a close friend when I get together which is infrequent. He has a wife and kids now so it's harder to get together. I kind of miss playing sometimes. I think video games helped me alot growing up with coordination, problem solving and just something in common. I should try to play some again.

Yeah, too bad games are insanely expensive in Canada now thanks to the megalo orange diarrhea dump.
Thanks for ruining our lives, USA.

When are you too old to read just for the fun of it?
When are you too old to watch movies or TV series?

I don't think anyone would ask that, but for video games they might. I fail to see the difference in what media platform you prefer your fictional story to be on. You're never too old for any of them.

One is only too old when one's interest in them moves on to other things.

What one must accept is that as one gets older, what they enjoy in video games may change and more important, ones youthful abilities may decline. The speed my brain can process what I see and hear has slowed down a bit. If one does not fixate on being the best, or one of the best, I find video games still fun.

I cannot play F1 Simulators like I use to. I find it more difficult to follow the turns on some tracks that have multiple layouts. I'm just slower. It's too bad because today's simulators look incredible. The last one I bought was F1 2020. The F1 francize has changed so it is difficult for me to find things to enjoy.

Sandbox games are perfect for me. Minecraft, SCUM, SWG Legends, Space Engineers, and War of Warcraft (Classic), games that don't have winners or losers.

Because I'm slower, doing really well is no longer a goal. Doing okay is fine. When I group with my sons, I still try to be useful in games like Baldur's Gate 3. Civilization 7, I'm just grateful to spend time with them online, and have fun. Like one game I spent most of my time just trying to keep Ada Lovelace happy. A couple times, I mean a couple, I've done fairly well in Civ 7. I can't repeat it like my sons can.

I had a great time playing Minecraft today, building a bridge with the goal of not falling into the water, and making the bridge look reasonably nice. Even though it does not need it, I'm going add supports that are partly submerged. That presents problems I really enjoy working out (materials, not drowning). I've done it before but the water was not as deep. I have ideas. :)

Yes. In fact, if anything, it's the opposite: you're old precisely because you don't play.
Games train the human mind.
Then people judge others by what your passion is.
Everyone plays games, some change their name to "hobbies."

If I climb a mountain, I'll be having fun, not playing (of course, with full awareness of the situation), and it will be my hobby...
While if I play a video game and I'm an adult, I might be addicted.
But it only works with gaming addictions.
Not with others like eating too much, drinking too much, or driving too fast.

Basically, everything we do will require a strategy.

And playing is like training in something non-stressful.

Some point & click adventure games could be nice to get back into the groove of things, they're not super mechanically demanding

Almost forty isn't old, unless you're young. But when 40 is receding from your rear view mirror, it's not old. It's still youngish you realize.
50, and still playing games but only from time to time. Now is one of those times, but it's been maybe a year or two since I lost got into a game.
I still need to finish Talos Principle II.

Good to know I'm not alone. I'm in my fifties now and still playing Elder Scrolls. I've been playing since it came out on floppy disk in 1994. Still waiting for Skyrim 6 release. Hope it drops before Grandma Shirley's 90th birthday. <3

I ran across this YouTube channel. I am delighted watching this woman play Minecraft.
Never too old to play video games.
Channel: GrammaCrackers
Her first video. As of November 9, 2025, she has three.

I find her fresh enthusiasm delightful. She is wonderful and having fun.

She now has five videos. Someone gave her inexperienced advise or they are just mean.
Mining straight down is not a very safe way to mine, and she dies several times, losing everything she is carrying each time. But she stays so positive.
Never too old to play video games.
