Gay marriage is a symptom of a decadent culture.

And your response is also symptomatic of a decadent culture because you're gorging yourself on ignorance just like a decadent, irresponsible culture would (and as this country has).

I would be proud to be American. You are talking like a pansy.

I think of a pansy as someone who is so uncomfortable with their own sexual identity that they fear anyone with a different sexual identity. Homophobes are cowards dressed up like tuff guys.

You're tough talking on the internet. That's more the actions of a little man than someone who can actually hold their s**t in a fight.

I'd be cool with this. I'd be afraid that if it was called marriage, there would be lawsuits against religious institutions who refused to perform them.

That's not possible and the religious institutions could counter-sue for legal harassment. Freedom of religion means that the religious institutions can't be sued for enacting their beliefs. IE, they can't be sued because their religion doesn't allow/tolerate homosexuality or acknowledging homosexual relationships.

I'll have to find the story, but there have already been a couple of churches that have lost their tax exempt status for not letting same sex couples hold ceremonies at their church.

First sentence:
"A boardwalk pavilion in the seaside town of Ocean Grove"

Not a church. Try again.

I cannot speak for skafather84, but I most certainly am not a pansy, I will make a stand for egalitarianism.

QFT. Nationalism has gotten too many people killed and caused too much strife. Only when people are willing to disregard arbitrary national and cultural boundaries to recognize the similarities among all peoples will we have peace.

Received my ballot today, very excited, will mail tomorrow. :D Hopefully enough people in my state will lend their hand in ensuring fundamental freedoms are available to all (in my state at least).

I can understand that when you are pro gay marriage and most americans are not, you easily get annoyed on this issue.

I'm not pro gay or whatever, I'm pro equality. Subtle difference.

Somehow I doubt you are actually informed as to what "most" Americans feel. Most Americans who are so wrapped up in their religion that they can't think logically might feel that way. Most Americans who apply a little logic to their decision making are well aware that when two adults of whatever gender decide to contract with each other in a loving committment that it is a benefit to society, not a drawback. Many Americans of religious persuasion are more interested in showing the "love" most religions teach too, instead of intolerance and bigotry. I'm sorry that you, whatever your religious choices might be, are not able to apply a little honest logic and clear thinking to the matter, but please do not presume to speak for "most" Americans as you are woefully ignorant on that front.

That's like saying 'I'm not anti black but I'm against the civil rights movement'

You want to deny gays the same rights as others, you ARE anti gay.

And in Hammond, LA, we begin to see the slope becoming slippery indeed...
