Your thoughts on Gay Marriage / Homosexuality?
I'm for it.
People getting married to whomever or whatever they want has nothing to do with me.
World needs more happy people anyway and the opposition arguements are just unreasonable.

Gay rights - particularly for Gays marrying, and serving in the military - is this generations civil rights struggle. I have to wonder how many homophobes today will hang their heads in shame in future times, when they come to realize they are on the wrong side of history. Kind of like how many racists in the sixties came to realize they were on the wrong side, and now only bequeath a heritage of shame to their children for their reprehensible behavior.

just like in postwar germany, the bulk of the rascist iceberg is hidden beneath the waves. the bulk of southern rascists never repented, they just slunk back into the woodwork. silence doesn't equal assent. the silent majority, given the right conditions, will start up where they left off, feeling no shame whatsoever. one has to have a sense of decency in order to feel shame. i am a biblical illiterate but i remember somewhere in that book it says "the sins of the fathers will be visited upon their sons, to the third generation." as far as the civil right struggle, the 4th generation has not manifested. as far as gay rights, we aren't even at the 3rd generation yet.

What you're referring to in the Bible has two meanings. The first is the sad fact that we too often have to clean up the messes left of the generation before us. The second is that people in general tend to think and act they same way their parents do. If you get into a pattern of doing what is wrong, it is extremely tough trying to break that pattern through generations.
Christians, for example, know that widespread acceptance of homosexuality (or any sinful behavior, for that matter) will have a negative influence on their own children. (Heterosexual) promiscuity is already a problem for us as it is, and it's no wonder that the age of consent has gradually increased in recent years, and some jurisdictions will hold BOTH underage partners responsible for their behavior. I'm not sure why it's taken the law so long to catch up with moral standards, but I see it as a good thing that it is so easy to become a "sex offender" at an early age. It won't fix the problem of adult sexual immorality, but at least it will give the kids a better shot at living up to the standard. We still have a lot of messes to clean up in that area. It will be a long time before we really start to benefit from it. But at least "sex offender" laws are in place and we've begun to prosecute based on such laws, and that's the first of many steps in a positive direction.

the sex offender part of your post makes sense to me, but not the idea that acceptance of homosexuality would have any negative effect on the next generation.
since homosexuality isn't sinful to society in general, it doesn't make sense that acceptance would be a bad thing for kids to be exposed to. it seems more like it would be a positive thing... and if christians believve it is a bad thing, then maybe more people need to choose a more accepting religion.

You think its good that youngsters get labelled alongside rapists and pedophiles often for merely engaging in a pleasurable act that millions of adults perform daily, based on a completely arbitrary time limit that can literally expire overnight and varies wildly world-wide? Nice. Charitable even....

I believe that "Christians" who hold this belief have a negative influence on my children.
As a matter of fact, I'm pro-gay rights, and I fancy myself a Christian. I just hold Christ's call to love your neighbor as yourself above the largely man-made laws, which includes the admonition against homosexuality, found in the Leviticus.

That's why I put "Christians" in quotations.

I am absolutely FOR the legalization of gay marriage.
Question...If gay marriage is legalized, how
can gay marriage encourage people to be gay?
That's something I don't understand very well.
If gay marriage isn't legalized by the federal courts,
then it should be up to each individual state{except for states
who haved already legalized gay marriage}, beginning obviously with California.
Oregon has a ballot measure in line for 2011 or 2012.

Silly NTs, I have Aspergers, and having Aspergers is gr-r-reat!
Why do people ever bring this point up? Not only should it not matter, but in fact, it currently doesn't matter. If I go to the court today and attempt to marry they will at no point inquire to my sexuality. They will ensure that I am marrying someone of the opposite sex, but neither them or I must be heterosexual in order to marry.
And people often wonder why I can't stand the term, gay marriage--that's why, because people lose sight of what the issue really is.
Gay Marriage
No such thing as Gay Marriage; a marriage, simply, cannot be gay.
This brings up the interesting issue regarding politics and control of language.
When a person says they oppose gay marriage, that can make it sound like that person is in an unreasonable minority opposing something that is almost universally accepted, whereas the truth is that the idea of gays getting "married" has been an unthinkable absurdity for about 99% of the people who have ever lived.
