the tar is popular and will get there. just like glock has way more options then other pistols, but that is changing with the M&P. the ar has been around since the 70s, it's had like 50ish years to build up accessory support. theres already trigger packs coming out for the tar and rail attachments.

It can't say where the Tavor will go in terms of popularity but I won't hold my breath waiting for them to become as popular as the AR-15. The AR-15 was first sold to the public in 1963 or 64 with no historical evidence of anything but a relatively few aftermarket accessories until the past decade. It took the AR a long time to become really popular and that was no doubt aided by the US military use of the M16.

I too have heard that eotechs have problems with keeping zero and breaking. I want the aimpoint compm4s or the acog. both are expensive. the aimpoint has a fantastic battery life. not sure what the difference between 2moa and 4moa. but hear the small one will get big on higher bright but you can't make the big one smaller.

I've got the 2 MOA Comp ML3 and I just turn the brightness up for shooting on a a bright sunny day. If there is too much sunlight you pretty much totally lose the dot on the lower settings. I love that Aimpoint and Larue setup.

5.56 has been better there were a few months of none, then independence showed up at bi marts. but its gone now and federal is back. probably being used up by the IDF. just like that korean ammo ran dry for a while when SK was buying up ammo. been able to get it regular price for months now, still no 22rl though.

I would have prefered that they would have gone with a different round than the 5.56 from the beginning with a short 6.5mm rould being ideal. A 6.5mm boattail bullet has an awesome ballistic coefficient and doesn't need to be driven at breakneck muzzle velocities to retain velocity at longer ranges. I prefer the 5.56 / .223 more for logistical reasons than anything. It's a very common and relatively inexpensive round. I have a 5 gallon bucket of once-fired 5.56 brass that I got at our shooting facility from when the Army was using one of our ranges. That and I have a few thousand M193 projectiles I got cheap. I?d rather have a less than ideal 5.56 round that I can shoot a lot relatively inexpensively as opposed to a better one of the 6.5 or 6.8 persuasion that I can?t. BTW: Last time I checked AIM surplus had Prvi .223 in stock at decent prices ($6 and change). Wolf was even cheaper but I never use it.

And once again I will say that I began posting in this thread using facts. I began using my opinions only after my opinions expressed elsewhere were questioned or dismissed as invalid.

If someone wants me to use facts in a discussion, then they should bring some facts to the table and I will respond in a like manner.

So I would like you tell tell me exactly where in this thread I was addressed using actual facts.

I don't think so. You must do this yourself. If you are unable, I'm sorry for you.

Perhaps another time and another subject.

So you insult me for not using facts, dismiss the fact that I began posting in this thread by using facts, then refuse to find your own facts, which makes you feel sorry for me?

Did I sum that up correctly?

There are only two things you need in life:
Love
And a .45

I always do wear ear muffs. When I take it deer hunting, I don't have much of an option. I will not use it again until I get a pair of db limiting hearing aids.

5.56 in 16" above does ok, the shorter the barrel gets the worse the gas system gets. the 300 black out i designed for short barrels. as for 308. I have seen too many videos and read to many reviews of jamming and failures to feed on a lot of the cheaper ones. the ar gas system wasn't designed for 308.

? The issues with short barreled AR?s is the reduced distance from the gas port to the muzzle which reduces the gas volume. That can be crutched by an enlarged gas port, a longer gas tube (a ?pig tail? gas tube wraps around the barrel once increasing volume a little), and I believe they have different buffers to compensate for short barreled AR?s. They can and are typically made to work reliably. I don?t care for the idea of an AR barrel much under 16? because of the reduced velocity takes too much of the sting out of the .223 round. Without that high velocity the little 55 or 62 grain bullet doesn't have so much going for it.

? I?d just go with a 7.62X39mm upper and forget that .300 Blackout. Ballistically both are close enough to call it good.

? Actually, the original Armalite AR-10 in the 1950?s was in .308 and it used DGIS. The only thing before that I?m aware of was the WW2 era Swedish AG-42b and that does not blow the gas all the way back into the bolt carrier like the AR does. I haven?t deep dived into it but I?ve never heard anything particularly negative about the AR-10 and they are still being made. Without doing considerable research I wouldn?t sweat it. If I wanted another .308 semi-auto with the intent of scoping it I?d get a recent version of the AR-10.

Quote:
if i every win money i'll get a scar, but at 3k i would sooner get a tar21 at 1,800. but if i had the money and was getting a 308 simi auto it would be scar17 ,m14, fal, then g3.

? The Tavor looks cool but I can?t see myself getting one in the foreseeable future. A friend of mine just bought one and when our schedules both allow it he?s going to let me try it. The thing that keeps me (and others) with the AR platform is all the accessories and modifications that can be done with it.

? If you want to get a .308 semi-auto and scope it the AR-10 seems to be the best since you?ll have a picatinny upper to start with. The FAL has that goofy gas system that could be as much of a pain in the ass (I have one) as an asset. The M14 / M1A is starting to show it?s age as a design. After all, it?s an updated version of a 1930?s design that still retains a lot of the 1930?s features. As much as I love the M-1 and M-14 I don't think they would be my choice if I could have only one .30 caliber rifle to do everything. The HK-91 (had one) is as sturdy as a fencepost, decent scope mounting (claw mount) and very reliable, but not very ergonomic. The barrel (about 17? I think) is a bit too shor to take advantage of the 308?s full potential.

Just my 2 cents worth?.

My 2 cents. 9.25 to one twist .308 win. 180 gr+ for the shock. 1920's sporterized spanish mauser. Over under scope, with no rattling noisey rifle strap. Excellent hunter.

If you think a .45 ACP is loud you'd better not try a .357 magnum or .357 SIG.
If you go shooting and forget your hearing protection just find two cigarette butts and twist them down a little at one end and stick them in. Not as good as real hearing protection but they'll suffice in a pinch.

Thought it was a Swedish Mauser at first glance.
How does that scope mount work for you being up so high like that?

It works great. The scope adjustment is over 3/4 of the way out. That's it. That one is a nice old glass bausch and lomb. Very clear. I like it. I do alot of hunting in thick brush, and do not use the scope when something is on the run. Most of the time I like the open site better.

If I remember correctly, the swedish mausers with the small reciever like to blow up on you, and throw the bolt in your face when you use a .308 usually lower than 180 gr. Once on a while.
