You're right, but not in the way you think. If gays adopt, then the kids will be at risk of constant teasing and physical abuse from their straight peers who think that being "son of gay" means you're automatically gay or worthless. The problem here is not that gays adopt, but that bigots can't accept the fact that gays adopt. You can't blame the gays for this situation.

There is no evidence to suggest that gay parents are any more likely to engage in incest than straight parents. Ultimately, that's just a scare-tactic that anti-gay-adoption people are using because they know that when they suggest that a gay man will eventually screw his kids that argument triggers a knee-jerk reaction. Nobody ever talks about the problem of straight fathers screwing their daughters (or in some cases, sons).

A lot of kids suffer emotional damage at the hands of straight parents, too. Sexual orientation has no impact on whether someone's a drug addict, alcoholic, wife/kid beater, impoverished, neglectful, aspie, etc. (I throw in the last one not because I think aspies would make bad parents, but because there are a lot of NT people who think we would. Saying that someone can't adopt because they are aspie is the same as saying they can't adopt because they're gay -- it's based purely on ignorance and prejudice.) In the case of gay kids, of course, having gay parents will make life much better as they wouldn't be afraid to come out of the closet and would be able to get practical advice. Gay kids of straight parents are probably more physically and emotionally abused than any other kids, period (and then they are often thrown out of the house to live on the street).

All the fear-mongering won't change the fact that gay people already adopt. They just can't walk down to the local catholic church to get a suitability reference, and in some countries can't apply through the government-sponsored placement services. Instead they usually do private adoptions, foreign adoptions, "hard case" adoptions (the ones that straight parents don't want to take because the kids aren't beautiful enough or healthy enough or are more than a year old). In some cases gay men hire a surrogate mother to have their biological offspring (lesbians can do it on their own with a willing sperm donor).

I've had this discussion with people before (obviously). My final point is generally this: straight parents have no basis for complaint about gay adoptions as long as there are kids on the adoption waiting list. If putting kids into "a good, straight home" really mattered to them then they'd take the first 5-year-old fetal-alcohol-syndrome kid on the list instead of insisting on waiting for a newborn baby.

I am here because I have AS, and that is what this group is for. I don't appreciate your insults, you don't need to attack me personally. When you do, you obviously can't make a case.

I don't have a problem with incest- I just wouldn't want to do it with anyone in my family.

This site is here for people who have AS, those who know people with AS, those who want to know more about AS, etc. The membership is not restricted and neither are the topics (within the bounds of reasonable discourse).

WP has more than 62,000 posts, thousands of threads and 14 public discussion forums. For someone who doesn't like this topic or our opinions, you seem to be spending a lot of time (perseverating?) on this one thread. Wouldn't it be easier for you to simply ignore this thread and try to make a positive contribution on a topic you *do* enjoy?

i'm curious - how is what stlf said different to what you've been saying, postperson? a genuine question, by the way.

and, again, i agree with jetson - as far as i can see, people can learn from the posts on here thus far. a lot of negative opinion can be explained by lack of knowledge about a subject - all the "isms" are founded on ignorance (as in lack of information/education, rather than rudeness).

Well I find the straight hate and heterophobia here alarming. Especially in your posts, Jetson.

That is a very interesting statement. I wonder how many people posting in this thread are even homosexual. I'm not. I've been married to my wife for nearly 6 years, have a 4 year old son, and a daughter due in October.

I just happen to have a clear sense that denying marriage, which is regulated by the government in the US (not religious institutions), to consenting adults is unnecessary. When faced with the strong possibility that the definition of marriage as only being between a consenting adult man and consenting adult woman was going to be tossed out in court, there was a scramble by those with a fear of homosexuals to make constitutional amendments which cannot be ruled on by a court.

Jetson...It's great to have you back around again!!

Postperson...I find it very amusing that you acuse others of 'victim' speech. All anyone has to do to earn this title from you is answer your shallow attacks.

You set a pattern in motion with the attacking comments you post then you get nasty when others define where they are coming from.

Go and get a bit will ya!! Your a bit uptight.

If it was 2 years ago or before, I'd be saying its wrong. But that is only because I agreed with everything that the presidant and the Christians said.

I grew up and now have a better understanding.

In some people's eyes its not normal, its evil, blah blah blah

In reality, its just natural attraction.

So now, I don't care about sexual orientation anymore.

More personal attacks from moderators, how charming. Elfman I've had enough of your insults previously. I do not wish to hear from you again. I thought I'd made that clear to you before.
