Sand: Why do many liberals like you have blind faith in the mercy of other people? ESPECIALLY violent people who are transgressively predatory. FYI, transgression is when you attack somebody, especially a total stranger, who has done NOTHING whatsoever to provoke you. A few years ago here in Seattle there was a gang of teenage boys who would assault lone individuals walking down the street late at night. At least 7 people were beaten so badly they had to have surgery. When the police finally caught these boys they said they were doing it just for the THRILL of it! Ive heard stories like this for YEARS about teens and young men in their early 20s carrying out "Thrill beatings" and sometimes Thrill Killings just for the sheer enjoyment of it. If you are (young)woman, men wanna rape you and they dont CARE if you have never done anything to them! WHY do you expect violent people who act on their impulses to feel sympathy for you just because you're unarmed? When commit violence they see their victims as objects and and so their empathy is totally turned off. Aggression inhibits empathy and causes a person to see other people the way a hunter sees his game.
Lastly, sneaking up on someone with a knife isnt as easy as you think. If one is alert than in many places you can hear the person coming and even "sense" that someone is physically near you. If you're in a deserted place, especially in the big city, you'd be wise to be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out for people behind you. The fact that I had a knife is what kept me from getting beaten up by a gang of drunk punks who rushed my car. I was lucky none of them had a knife as well. Part of me thinks that next time I'd better have pistol in my car.

As I said, I probably have been lucky. I doubt flashing a pistol would save me from a savage pack of teen-agers but I never had the opportunity to find out. I suppose shooting six of them might discourage the seventh or might piss him off to the degree that a more vicious assault would take place. If I am in a crime ridden section of town I avoid packs of people that might seem aggressive. I don't take chances. When things look dangerous I go somewhere else. I don't trust people anymore than I would trust a river swollen by rain or flood. I don't go swimming there. As I mentioned, I have traveled with Arabs deep in the Israeli West bank, I have been in East Berlin when the Vopos were rampant, I have been targeted by the KKK in Tennessee during the violent 60s. I walked freely in New York's Harlem when it was not considered safe. A gun would not have been an asset in any of these places and I never had the occasion to need one.

Well, what happened? Ragtime still seems extremely bitter about President Obama's victory. Doesn't Australia give visas to disgruntled Republicans any more?

Wow. Because you're made about a centre-right corporate Democrat governing America you'd move to a country whose ruling party is affiliated with the Socialist International?

Personally, I wouldn't mind moving to Australia just because Australia is a beautiful country. But there's no way to afford that with the lack of employment opportunities and high unemployment meaning everyone's snatching up any work as it becomes available. But as for Obama getting reelected, please, don't even say that. No!

Call me politically incorrect, but those statistics will rise if he wins. That's just a fact.

What are the statistics now? You had a couple years of data to show if you are right. You were keeping track of this since this was a bold statement, right?

I thought you were harsh towards Catholics and Muslims, but this takes the cake. Where in the Bible does it say to be intolerant towards people of different skin color? I don't remember that part when I studied it. I don't think you are a true Christian.

President Obama will be re-elected. Don't worry.

Australia is the place from which your parakeets originated. They have a lot of other nice birds, too. Plus, koalas and kangaroos. Have you ever heard of Skippy?

Plus, Australia has the Wiggles.

We've got problems too with Julia Gillard she's not doing very well at all she seems to be controlled by the greens especially Bob Brown.
She never answers questions always full of spin whenever someone asks her anything.
And when Obama came out here she was over him like a starstruck schoolgirl it was embarasing.
trouble is the opposition isn't much good either.

Don't worry, Australia will eventually be in a similar position.

I think that our "Conservatives" are enamoured with Australia because it is the birthplace of their darling Rupert Murdoch. Hence, Australia can only be a paradise of "Conservatism."

One thing I do find interesting is that while an Australian

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Murdoch

Quote:
Murdoch threw his growing power behind the Australian Labor Party under the leadership of Gough Whitlam and duly saw it elected on a social platform that included universal free health care, free education for all Australians to tertiary level, recognition of the People's Republic of China, and public ownership of Australia's oil, gas and mineral resources.

whereas in America, the bastard has been doing just the opposite.
