It all depends on what you mean with "worst". For a Nazi Jackson and Polk must have been two of the greatest, considering what they did to the native Americans and Mexicans respectively.

I agree because he cared for the people and the common man. His life is an interesting one because from a common man to the President is something that not many people can achieve in their life.

Ironically, Jackson was the first President to developed and put in effect the Stewardship Theory of the Presidency. In other words, he believe what his own powers and limits were not by the Constitution. Lincoln revived the theory in his terms. FDR and beyond made what the Presidency is today with the Stewardship Theory.

Yeah, I will admit that I am not a fan of Andrew Jackson, I used to put him closer to the bottom, then I think I heard that the US wasn't as badly hurt by his attempts to kill the US Bank as I thought it was.

All that and the dot com bubble. Many of the "easy money" policies regarding loans were started in the Clinton administration. They came home to bite in the Dubya Bush administration. Which does not get either Bush or the Republicans off the hook. Bush was playing fast and loose to fund his mistaken war in Iraq.

Either bush wouldn't make it into the top 10% of the worst! I would say FDR(new deal and his poor handling of the economy), hubert hoover(his handling of the economy. Coincidently, the 1929 crash happened 8 months after he entered office, and ran through his entire term.), CLINTON(Groom lake polution/regulations, relaxed corporate regulations, foster, lewinsky, glass steagle repeal, line item veto, etc....), CARTER(iran crises, energy crises, moronic attempts to try to save the hostages, etc.....), would rank as worse. Nixon may deserve a spot as one of the worst also. Though I Clinton did the SAME thing using equipment that nixon didn't have in his time.

BTW it is interesting that only ONE, besides nixon, was "republican", HOOVER. He had NO loyalty to the republican party, and acted like a democrat, and earlier was.

In fairness though, it seems truman(another democrat), may be on the other end of, excuse the expression, the spectrum! He decided not to run again though. He probably meant well with the social security, and the rest just had to be done, or was good. Also, it looks like calvin coolidge(republican) may also deserve a spot as one of the BETTER presidents. Though his term end in 1929 is suspicious, and he had a good run, his policies seemed sound. maybe the facilitated the later solutions to the collapse.

And WHAT would you say bush did? Pronounce nuclear wrong? That is the way some COMMUNITIES pronounce it! It wasn't a sign of stupidity. That he stumbled over words, etc....? Ever listen to kerry or OBAMA? They do, or have done, the SAME! Heck, I do at times ALSO. That he "got rid of the budget surplus that 'clinton had'"? That is a specious argument, as it was a fabrication. He could have told the same lie. That he gave tax cuts? And the deal with the iraqis was basically a show of force. He had to do something.

He pretty saw it as a threat to the people and states. Plus he was the only president to pay off the national debt which has not being achieved since him.

Right, and he was also a raving madman, violated the orders of the supreme court, worsened the government through making the spoils system more prominent with some appointees being underqualified for their positions.

However, the failure in my eyes comes from the fact that his economic policies are still the core of the Republican party today. You know that idea that "reckless spending is good for the economy" that the Republicans are so proud of? That was Reagan's idea (or at least the idea of someone in his staff)... In today's world, the average european makes less money than the average US citizen (albeit working fewer hours), and yet is just as economically stable (if not moreso), and has a good deal of money saved up each year, all because they don't go out and buy sh** every time they have the cash on hand to do so...

ToadOfSteel already did, and citing very very good reason for doing so.

Well the moron did start a spending war with the soviet union. Attacked countries that had nothing to do with combatants during the Contra affair. Created one of the worst budget deficient ever. Created a good for nothing missile system. Promoted Christan Right-Wing BS & so on.

Not to mention the fact that the 1980's was a very dark period for civil-rights. Putting the countries military & supply-side economics before civil rights. Made no provison's to the Voting Rights act of 1965. Didn't even bring up Gay-Rights & many more issues such as AID's.

Irresponsible fiscal policy, diminishing the welfare system, lack of accomplishment towards issues like AIDS's and so on. Releasing patients from mental hospitals. Putting disabled people in a very bad position and so on. [Cutting welfare on a wheelchair-bound person, shame.] Reagan in my opinion would be one of the worst presidents ever. Down with Buchanan, Andrew Jackson & Warren Harding.

Actually, the subprime business dates back to the Carter administration.
