Do you Think We Should Start A War with China?
dude, why dont you give a s**t about my grammar for a second (or respond to me in norwegian, that would be fun.)
"free tibet" means the same as "free california"
tibet is a part of china.
sure they want to be free, who doesnt want to have their own country.,
do you have ANY IDEA how many secessionist groups there are in the world?
there are texans who want the texas republic back, there are secessionist groups in the montana regions of usa, wanting some free lakota republic, free quebec, free lappland of northern scandinavia, free cornwall, free basque country, free crimea, free scania of southern sweden, free chechnya, free akbhazia and ossetia, southern tip of thailand, i cant even BEGIN listing up african ones, somalia allone is fragmented into some 4-5 new "free" states
theres also uyghuristan/turkestan/xinjiang of china, with a freedom struggle just as long lasting as tibet. but you were unaware, cus theyre muslims, and therefore filthy terrorists. am i right?
what makes tibet so special, huh?
ill tell you what: you read about it on a sticker.
seriously, im done with this thread. its not good for me....
IA, let me ask you something.
What has been the historical result when one nuclear power engaged in direct, 'hot' war with another nuclear power on that power's homeland?
You can't answer because it hasn't happened. Because world leaders up to this point have been sane enough to see that it does not happen.
You can't say with any historical accuracy that the invaded country would not use its nukes, because no one has ever been stupid enough to invade a nuclear armed country yet (and don't go of on that ("it would be a civil war!" The title of the thread is 'should the U.S. go to war with China.')

Not true,
We invaded Pakistan, it has nuclear weapons. Both Pakistan and India have invaded each other, both had nuclear weapons. The USA and Russia have both invaded each other territories and fired upon each other numerous times with a nuclear war. Cuba and the USA have attacked each other, both has nuclear weapons. Iran and Israel have both attacked each other and have some nuclear capabilities. During Vietnam, China was assisting Vietnam and sending troops, both had nuclear weapons. Same with Britain and Eastern Germany during the Cold War. Also there has been wars between Russia and other former provinces of the USSR that both had nuclear weapons.
You really don't know your history, sir.

So why didnt the US support Chechnya in its war of independence against Russia, eh? Could it be that by doing so the Kremlin would regard that as an act of war by the United States against Russia and threaten to unleash tactical nuclear weapons? Also, it was the Soviet Union providing most of the military aid to Vietnam during the war and that was a proxy war rather than a direct military confrontation. Cuba does NOT possess any of its own nuclear weapons sir; those were Soviet Missiles under command of the Kremlin deployed in Cuba-not unlike the Pershing II missiles deployed in (West)Germany.
We invaded Pakistan, it has nuclear weapons.
You did not invade Pakistan. American troops entered Pakistan. They allegedly crossed the border. An invasion is an attack against a sovereign government. The US did not attack the nation of Pakistan.
Tibet is not a country as recognized by other nations. Canada, well noted for recognising fledgling states, has not ratified the claims of tibet to nationhood. Nor has the UN which you keep aligning solely with US interests. Tibet is a state in China. Tibet is an autonomous region in southwestern China, controlled by China since the 1700s.
Lets put that a different way. The US declared independance in... oh, you should know this.... 1776? July 4th ring a bell?
So.... Tibet has been under the influence of the chinese longer than America has been a nation free of Britain. In 1949 they were again claimed by the fledgling(but huge) peoples republic of China.
Tibet is not a nation. They do not control their own affairs. They are not sovereign, much as they wish they were.

If you talked to any real Chinese (and no, reading a textbook is no substitute for that) you'd know that a democratic Chinese government would if anything be more annexationist on both Tibet and Taiwan since both are genuinely popular, and that the main effect of the bumper-stickers is to make ordinary Chinese angry at Western petulance and hypocrisy on this matter. Just because the Dalai Lama can get his useful idiots in the West to protest and the Western media finds it convenient anti-Chinese propaganda material doesn't mean anybody with any real power anywhere actually cares. In fact, the Olympics illustrate it perfectly: some people protested, but they were still awarded to China, other countries still sent their athletes, heads of state, etc, and China came out on top.

I think idahoaspie should be made chairman idahoaspie as punishment for this mindless suggestion. Then either he has to shoulder the immense responsibility and historical baggage of modern china or he gets his wish and theres a civil war, guess which side i would be on then? Not true,
We invaded Pakistan, it has nuclear weapons.
When did the United States get involved in a hot war with Pakistan? We are currently conducting operations on Pakistani soil - with the tacit approval of the Pakistani government.
Pakistan and India have conducted border skirmishes and cold-war-type proxy battles in Kashmir. Neither has launched a full-scale invasion since the advent of nukes on both sides.
The U.S. and Russia have had numerous skirmishes. Neither has launched a full-scale invasion of the other.
Cuba does not have nukes. The attempt by Russia to place nukes in Cuba was probably the hottest conflict of the cold war between Russia and the U.S.
The Bay of Pigs invasion by the U.S. was a separate (earlier) issue, and Cuba defeated the invading Americans without possessing nukes.
again, incorrect. Iran currently has no nuclear weapons (if you followed current events, you would know that they only recently have produced enough refined material to *make* a bomb, and the status of their weapons is unknown. Israel does have nukes, and Iran has never directly attacked it (it supports extra-national terrorists in Israel, but has never launced an all-out attack). Israel has directly attacked Iran in the past (though not with a full-scale invasion); it remains to be seen whether it will continue to do so now that Iran is closer to being an actual nuclear power.
Incorrect. China was not invading Vietnam in the hot war sense during Vietnam's war with the United States; also, Vietnam is not and was not a nuclear power.
"same" ? Are you saying that Britain was helping Eastern Germany during the cold war? Or that they invaded Eastern Germany? Neither is true, in any case.
Incorrect. Of the former Soviet states that Russia has attacked, none retain nuclear weapons. Russia would like to attack the Ukraine, but refrains from doing so - probably, in part, because the Ukraine has nukes.
