Do you believe God exists?
1) God is a being, that one can have a personal relationship. A person God. 29%  29%  [ 55 ]
2) God is an impersonal force that guides reality as it is. He decrees our laws of physics, but does not intervene to break them. 12%  12%  [ 22 ]
3) God does not exist. Reality can be explained by scientific inquiry and the scientific method in by itself. 33%  33%  [ 62 ]
4) I am not sure. There is the possibility that God does exist, or does not. We must follow the preponderance of evidence when drawing our conclusion. 26%  26%  [ 48 ]

Relativity was quickly proven because it quickly accounted for time dilation and the gravitational influence of light; try harder AspE you can do it!

But they had no means to test it until after Einstein was dead. According to you, he wasn't doing science.

I think you are referring to the new gravitational wave discovery?

Einstein's ideas were quickly proven correct because it correctly predicted gravitational bending in light that travels through space time and filled in holes in which physicists at that time were unable to absolve alone with general Newtonian gravity.

C'mon AspE we believe in you! You can do better than that!

The Higgs Boson was postulated in the 1960's, but could not be confirmed until 2012. According to you, until CERN was switched on, the hypothesis was merely pseudoscience, no different than astrology and phrenology.

Moot point. The higgs boson was governed and easily hypothesized without much difficulty from the residue mass when you subtract out the yakawa parameters and GeV of the higgs vacuum.

Dude, do you realize that you are at a huge disadvantage when you try to debate physics with me?

By the way, are you that insane to draw the preposterous claim that parallels astrology and particle physics?

Edit: Yukawa not yakawa, typo. Subatomic scalar field.

I'm not debating physics with you, I'm debating the philosophy of science. Hypothesized is not tested. You said if it couldn't be tested, it wasn't science. Until CERN was built, it couldn't be tested.

String and quarks are two completely different realms of particle physics. In the 1960s, quark masses were quickly hypothesized and eventually inferred by the higgs mechanism, and the boson itself was a common sense approach to the quark mass akin to solving for the unknown in x + 2 = 3

Personally, I do not believe in god. Additionally, I am an igtheist for a reason: The possibility of a god depends on how that deity is defined. If the wind is seen as a deity, why not. If your deity is an invisible beings who is all powerful, then highly unlikely and you'd have the burden of proof.

According to you, it was an invalid hypothesis until 2012.

I'm. CERNtainly waiting for the graphic novel.

Einstein's theory of religion and Spirit of the Universe seems to have changed over his lifetime.

Me I was a Hebrew school drop out.

Sewiously learning new words in this thread.
Off to the library to get The Invention of Hugo
Cabrera
A Novel in Words and Pictures

If you only studied the general problematic nature of string conjecture, you would quickly realize the immense baggage it carries. It is likely that testing for string theory will never be in our reach, and living with uncertainty will be something we all need to adapt to.

AspE, I kind of realize I have a bit of a mean tone with you, and I am sorry if I do. I mean you are a great guy to talk with, and who knows, maybe one day we could enjoy a beer together.

But I think our views on things like God and religion, are utterly irreconcilable.

Was it a valid hypothesis before it could be tested or not?

Or was it valid because it could be theoretically tested, even if a powerful enough accelerator had not yet been designed?
