In terms of equal qualifications, the "white man" will be selected against. In terms of superior qualifications, the "white man" may be able to obtain employment, but only if the cost of hiring an employee with no taxation benefits is offset by the quantity of work he can do in excess of the standard which others, who convey a taxation benefit due to their skin color or sexual preference or other qualifications entitling them to the benefits obtainable by merely being officially labeled a "minority", set.
yes we agree that the white man would be selected against, but i think it is a good thing, for reasons i stated about6 or 7 times in th thread. the rest of what you said is just vague conjecture.

No, what I said is based upon economics and is not merely vague conjecture. And your "reasons" are usually nothing more than advocacy of punishing people who are not responsible for the actions perform upon others just due to the concentration of melanin in their skin or what gender they were born with.

these are vague conjecture. not based in any facts whatsoever.

nobody is being punished - you make fantastical statements to try to prove a point.

i think that we cannot agree about whether it is a good idea or not. we are arguing in circles.

If two people are equally qualified, but one is ultraviolet while the other is infrared and the one who is ultraviolet is selected due to merely being ultraviolet that is stupid. In such a case, it would be better to just flip a coin to determine who is selected rather than selecting based upon superficiality.

please refrain from insulting other people's ideas. the concept isn't stupid, you just disagree with it. if it is difficult for you to debate the issue without insulting people's ideas, perhaps you should refrain from posting controversial topics.

Fine, it is wrong. It is invalid. It is unsound. It is improperly biased. When selecting based upon a partiality for a skin color or a genealogy, it is racism itself dressed up in another disguise. However, if coins or another device to produce equal probability outcome were utilized, then there would be no question of racism since the probability for both outcomes is equal rather than predetermined.

it isn't wrong, invalid, or unsound either - you just disagree with it. several people on this thread disagree with the idea that it is even considered racism. you might have used the incorrect word.

Demonstrate, in syllogism format, the soundness of argumentation for the preference of one person over another based upon superficial differences when both are equally qualified, if you don't mind. Otherwise, I will still say that it is unsound, lacking in cogency, irrational, and otherwise based upon racism. Your disagreement with me does not make me any less right and nor does your ad naseum baseless verbal negation of anything for which you are prejudicially opposed.

because those people are still disadvantaged in our society. they do not have the same opportunities since society is still racist against them. so this helps to eliminate the racism. i said this already.

seriously, though... lots of people have argued their opinions on this thread. do you actually not understand that you are arguing an opinion too? i do see that you do not believe that affirmative action or other programs should exist. you've also said why you think that is the case... but it is still your opinion and is not based on right or wrong in this situation. neither is my opinion based on right or wrong regarding this...

No. Injustice in any form is not ok. It happens but of course it is wrong.

NO, it doesn't help to eliminate the racism at all. It feeds and encourages it. It promotes prejudice and the idea that minorities cannot get jobs based on their abilities or merits. It encourages an "Us vs them" mindset and a "coming here and taking our jobs" mentality. People who have lost out to this racial preferential treatment are not happy to have helped the poor oppressed whoever, they are monumentally cheesed off that they lost out because they weren't black enough. You can't FORCE racism out of people.

It isn't just employment that suffers in this preferential treatment. Recently a whole host of bullying cases were revealed to be racist acts perpetrated by Asian youths against whites SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY WERE WHITE. The school in question had simply ignored the racial qualifier, which leads neatly to a miscarriage of justice and a Daily Mail headline. Yet the police have attended cases in PRIMARY schools when a white child has made a comment someone has deemed racist in the utmost of childish innocence. Such unbalanced treatment creates greater prejudice. There are numerous examples, thousands of them. Plenty have been quoted in this thread, and all of them point towards the fact that the Ethnic minority has received preferential treatment because of their ethnicity, and the white majority have felt mistreated, abused, and cast as second class. IT DOESN'T HELP. GET A BETTER SOLUTION.

it has helped to give thousands of people better opportunities, that they would not be able to have obtained without the programs. this is a positive effect. of course, there will always be people who take advantage of situations, and there are lots of people who may be racist of other races. you cannot blame current racism on AA or other programs - racism existed before these programs came into effect.

you say these programs are not working? if you have a better solution, which would still provide these opportunities for disadvantaged individuals, i would like to hear it.

You've cited two different things as "working" about these AA schemes. If the goal is merely to give ethnic minorities a job then yes, they do "work". But that doesn't require an AA scheme. You could achieve the same effect with a forced draft. The prejudice would still exist.

If "working" is: creating a fairer and more equal world where ethnicity is no longer a factor in gaining employment then no, they fail.

What made you think that I'm blaming all current racism on these schemes? I'm saying that these schemes are not beneficial to reducing racism. They are not the sole cause but they are also NOT A SOLUTION.

nobody is touting these programs as a way to eliminate racism, so i don't know why you are arguing against something that nobody has said in the first place.

about your solution... maybe if the minorities are taking the jobs, we should just force the unemployed white men to take the draft? do you consider this an acceptable solution for the dominant group? or just for minorities?

Forced draft for unemployed whites? Racist. Forced draft for unemployed anyone? Wrong, but not racist.

If these schemes do not help to eliminate racism (which they don't) then they fail. That is the point.

Just to clarify. I don't personally believe that "they are taking all the jobs." What I do believe is that a LOT of people DO believe it, and these schemes just fuel that fire.

Solution for employment of equally qualified applicants: flip a coin.
