I resent them too. My Republican re-elected governor just announced he wants 1 billion in new taxes (probably for his business buddies).

Also I was not aware 'the poor' as a whole where asking the middle class for higher taxes, most of the poor I have talked to lean more towards the opinion they should be taxing the very rich more, or at least enforcing the taxes they are supposed to pay rather than allowing them all the options of tax write offs or whatever. But the politicians in their pockets aren't going to do that.

The poor got "free health care" at the expense of the middle class. The poor are constantly trying to get money from the government, and figure out ways to raise taxes on people.

You're saying it's the poor who want to tax the middle class - again, resentment for the poor. No, they don't; they just want some help in order for themselves and their families to survive. Incidentally, the poor wouldn't need government assistance if the best jobs were not outsourced, and if businesses both big and small would stop just hiring people without gaps or long periods of unemployment on their record. That last I know from personal experience, when I'd be turned down for a job because I had been unemployed for too long. I don't give a sh*t if it's the business owner's choice to hire who they want, they need to consider also how badly an applicant needs the job in order to restore the economy.

Actually they just expanded some medicaid giving some of the poor free access to medical care, also much of the time even with medicaid there are co-pays for things, heavily reduced cost but you obviously are kind of ignorant on how this 'free healthcare' works I think, also a lot of places don't even take medicaid making it harder to access necessary treatment. It's not like the poor where like 'oh we need free healthcare, and it should be at the expense of the middle class' You seem to have the perspective that the poor have some alterior motive against the middle class which is a little ridiculous. If you have a problem with your tax rate why not take it up with the government who is in charge of that....instead of being resentful and blaming the poor who really don't have power over who gets taxed and at what rate.

Also, do you have any proof of your claim the poor are constantly figuring out ways to raise taxes on people? I did not realize the poor where in a position of power where they could effectively raise taxes on anyone.....but blame the poor for the government choosing to raise taxes in such a way its burdensome to people that is obviously more rational right?

The government constantly tried to figure ways to raise taxes on people and get money, its not the poor who are hell bent on raising taxes....just so happens the poor are the main group who benefit from the social safety network, though everyone benefits from that since it means a less desperate population(well unless all those programs get severely cut or ended). As I said me and plenty other poor people I have talked to do not want tax raises for the middle class....if anything maybe tax raises on the very wealthy. Like the billionaires and millionaires who would not really be phased income-wise by a somewhat increased tax.

Another thing to keep in mind is the majority of tax money doesn't even go to welfare or the social safety network.....I think it just comes down to people need something to look down on and to scapegoat and blame for economic problems and the poor makes an easy target for that. Just hope the government doesn't start going all nazi/facist on the poor due to this. It is the government screwing you over not the poor, but class division helps keep people distracted from that.

And that's the whole truth behind of the right's beef with taxes - resentment for the poor. This resentment encourages them to fight for paying as little taxes as possible, so those evil, evil poor people can't get a free ride. What the right doesn't care to acknowledge is, even with public benefits drawn from taxation, the poor still don't have anywhere the buying power or material wealth of the middle and upper classes. Idiots on the right, like Newt Gingrich, have to lie about poor people taking vacations to Hawaii with their food stamps(!) - something which the right allows themselves to believe, even though if they cared to apply a little mental power in thought to the matter, they'd know that was impossible.

I just cannot wrap my head around it, I mean I could see complaining about tax rates being too high...I could see complaining about the government using tax money for some wasteful project that serves no practical purposes. But instead they b*tch about the fact that some tax revenue goes to programs to help the poor as if that is the most wasteful thing on earth. How is it wasteful to help citizens of this country have resources to live. I guess there is the myth that poor people are all just lazy scum who simply did not try hard enough, when that is simply not the reality. There are plenty of barriers that limit peoples abilities to move up in life so the system sort of has a duty to compensate for that.

They convince themselves that poor people are taking advantage of them in order to live the life of luxury. Some life of luxury. It says a lot about the right when they think more highly of their money in the bank than about the lives of vulnerable citizens.

I'm on SSDI, but there hasn't been much luxury, more financial hardship.

Yeah I am 25, can't afford to move out of my moms place, pay her almost half my SSI money for rent(that is the only way they'd qualify me for the full amount, which gives me a little more left over after rent than I had before they raised it. guess I wont say the exact amount but its under 1,000 a month. It is a very good thing I have medicaid otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford any mental health treatment, regular check ups or anything they did however entirely cut my food stamps and since I buy my own food(of course my mom is not letting me starve so I can eat the food she gets for now and what little I can afford) I'll have to try and reapply or something. But yeah shes on a tight budget, her boyfriend is on a tight budget so not really enough to eat and a lot is junk food and highly processed stuff that makes me feel like crap. I think there are still a few fairly healthy things left I could make cause not sure I'll be able to afford any groceries this month either, the grocery store I can walk to is kind of pricey I know of some cheaper places but I'd have to take the bus and haul around groceries, kind of considering it though.

meh i've meet both democrats and tea party republicans, both who would love to see all the poor die, some will go as far as to suggest the gov line us up and do mass genocide.(there words were line up and shoot all the poor) what do these people have in common. they are all rich or upper middle class. how can one be a liberal democrat when they hate the main issues democrats stand for which is welfare, state paid education, medicaid etc. yet they don't like the republicans issues either.

I get less then 700 here. going up $11 dollars next year due to the riged cost of living increase the gov uses to avoid increasing social security. mean while everything else goes up in price. sure hope that extra $11 a month will cover it I don't have any money after bills, so all the nice things I have I had to save up for working seasonal jobs(with the money left after taxes and paid to ssi) still the rich get mad that I have any of this.

I've gone to eating the $1 banquet meals, was eating the $2.50 hungry man ones but with cost and needing to cut calories. healthier/homecooked meals can cost $10+ just can't cover that on only $150 a month for food

damn that is screwed up, I get a little over 700, but yeah I'd be glad just to get 100$ a month in food stamps as I am sure i could budget that enough to have a little better nutrition.

It is possible to live at least semi-independently on the amount SSI gives you, unfortunately this is probably only true for few areas of the country especially in major cities. I'm not on SSI but I'm fortunate enough my parents are able to support me at about the same level as if I was, my rent is $442 with all utilities and I get food stamps, I survive. I get a bit more for living expenses and "walking around money" but it probably totals pretty close to the same, altho the benefits of where my dad works is access to a lot of free entertainment so it's not all that bad. I'm hoping to get the ball rolling for myself soon and take advantage of this opportunity I've been granted, I wish I grew up here so I wasn't just a total alien.

Dunno why food stamps would kick you off when you have SSI, I thought you pretty much automatically qualified when you're on that and over 22 in age. You just tell them that you do not share food and consider yourself your own household, I dunno why they would do that unless you missed some interview or something. That's something that probably could be fixed pretty easy and you should, $190 or whatever it is a month is a lot when compared to nothing.

is what it is. I just worry that when I loose the wieght i'm wanting too, and go back to a higher calorie intact if I'll be able to sustain it but hopefully by then i'll have a security job, which will likely cause me to lose food stamps anyways don't know if i'll make enough to buy food though. its my main worry about finding job.

if you tell them you are buying and eating the food separately then you should get food stamps . I was getting 200 but then congress made cuts so not its 157< such a odd amount. so like 30-40 a week for food which is like 2 plastic bags of food. I luckily also eat family meals when they do them so i'm not having to buy my own food every night, but they dont' eat lunch or breakfast. I probably wouldn't survive living alone off just the 157.

and now I have to pay for any medicine I get due to having two insurances now. we also get housing assistance which pays for 400ish of our 900ish rent and other help there and here like help paying water and electric bills, without all that our income of two 700ish wouldn't cut it.

I thought the minimum for a single adult was $193, I don't know why I'd get any more than you. Maybe the states are different. It would be pretty messed up if they're counting the income from SSI against you. I've been able to make it work on the amount I get but I pretty much only buy stuff on sale and which ever store in an area of millions which is a labor in of itself so definitely I can see the difficulty some might have with it especially if they live in an area with limited options. I've been making a deliberate effort to buy more produce instead of stuff like Doritos or potato chips, better to snack on fruits or vegetables than that obviously but it's almost annoying how they almost always seem to be on sale here. I kind of squander my money on stuff I shouldn't sometimes but I should save up for a chest freezer since I only have a mini-fridge, it would allow me to buy more in bulk so I could really load up when ground beef is $2 or whatever good deal there may be. I have my staples that I cook; spaghetti, stroganoff, tacos. All pretty cheap.

Explain to me how not being immediately familiar with the authors of fiction that morons erroneously tie to my beliefs make me "intellectually bankrupt"? I only even use the label 'libertarian' because it's easier than explaining the myriad of positions that I hold, even if it's an imperfect fit, as I actually form my opinions by educating myself about things and thinking, as opposed to simply believing what my party tells me to.
