Is being gay wrong?
Actually, they can be put on ignore...

I don't hate straight people. "Some of my best friends are straight" and all that jazz. I just don't enjoy when people decide to opress gays and then deny that they've done so (by suggesting there are no victims because we all live a life of extraordinary wealth and leisure). The kids who commit suicide because they are taunted by their classmates and the adults who are violently killed with baseball bats because they were "random targets of opportunity" for straight bigots (both events happened in my city recently) don't have to worry about whether or not they're victims because they're dead.
Americans no longer burn witches at the stake or capture Africans and force them into slavery, although the Bible was used to justify both. I think people realized that just because you can twist the "word of God" to support a bad idea doesn't make it a good idea. Isn't it about time we retired our collective homophobia on the same grounds, too?
I think my posts were defensive, not offensive. Obviously I have opinions and can come across as opinionated if mine are different from yours. If people are really upset at what I wrote I hope it's out of a sense of shame.

I don't want in on this debate, however I will say that you have your facts wrong here- while I agree that people can and do twist the bible to create their own meanings- the bible DOES speak very clearly and specifically against homosexuality or "sodomy".
I don't think there is anything wrong with being gay or straight.
I think they should mind their own business and leave each other in peace!
Nothing gets a straight person's anger juices flowing more freely than than having a gay person instist they become straight or trying to chat them up. Doesn't happen very often though. I have only had a discussion ONCE in my life with someone who had this problem. On the other hand plenty of gay women are told by straight men that all they need is a good f***.
Yet I find that when this topic is raised ANYWHERE, there is a multitude of straight people with a multitude of negative reasons why gay people should not be gay. The most stupid one is the issues with sex related crimes. And it goes on and on down a big list from that point of severity to down right rediculous.
The majority of gay and straight community are mostly harmless, yet both have their weirdo's.
When laws are broken and harm and distruction is occuring, this is a time for justice.
God did not intervene in Sodom UNTIL laws were being broken harm and distruction of people's lives were accuring.
(edit: wanted to add that Sodom was sexually currupt and had nothing to do with gay or not)
It was straight people in positions of power out of control using horrific sexual acts as a power tool against there victims. This is so common still today it's rediculous.
A persons integrity and morality is NOT defined by whether they are straight or gay.
Why do straight people get involved with supporting gay rights? Because the gay communitee has tried and tried for years and years. They have said everything they can and still the stupid comments and expectations continue.
I get frustrated when I see anyone getting personally attacked by someone who the issue does not personally concern.
Do straights need straight rights....no...why not?...because they are not daily bombarded with personal attacks for this choice they make.
I think it is crazy that so many people need to live in secrecy for a simple little thing. Some have been killed even by family members for it. But I guess that is the mentality of the dumbed down massed, if you don't understand it, belittle, harrass and erraticate it.

Too late.
The destruction of Sodom was because the people wanted to rape an angel, not because of gay sex.
The only substantive reference to homosexuality in the whole Bible is in Leviticus. That's also the book that says you can't get to heaven unless you're circumcised, and your mother will suffer eternal damnation unless she remembered to sacrifice a lamb at the alter during the purity ritual after you were born. Did you know that Leviticus demands the death penalty for both people involved in adultry? There are even several places where parents are instructed to kill their children (and not because they're gay).

The Angels took on human form when they met Lot inside Sodom. To the residents, the angels looked like any other travelers.
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
-Romans 1:18-32
The Biblical position on homosexuality is unwaivering throughout the book.

The Biblical position on killing is unwavering throughout the bible too Sean...Is that something you happened to miss?
Thal shalt not kill in modern terms seems to have become thall shalt not kill except for when you can justify to yourself.
Seems to me you have your own biblical responsibilities to worry about. Hey but why deal with your own stuff when you can get on other people's backs about theirs.
My point is too many of you guys want to point out what you consider 'wrong' in other people's lives, with an incredible amount of ignorance concerning your own.

Yes, the Ten Commandments do say not to kill, and for everyday life, it is applicable. However, before you make such an oversimplified judgment, read Leviticus and Deuteromy for laws on self defense, war, and capital punishment.
Furthermore, even some of Jesus' disciples were known to own and sometimes carry swords.
...talking about yourself again?
postperson, is this helpful? i do believe it was you who brought up the subject of personal attacks. so, once again, i have to ask why you persist in being the only one who seems to be making these personal attacks on this thread?
a friend of mine, who belongs to the international church of christ, says that, as they take the bible literally, and that this is generally the definition of fundamentalism, that he has to admit to being a fundamentalist. surely there are squizillions of arguments that the bible - and particularly the OT - is not to be taken literally? apart from anything else, translation leads to interpretation. oh, and leviticus also said:
"do not rend your clothes, lest you die" (lev 10:6) (obviously, ripped jeans are fatal);
"everything in the waters that has not fins and scales is an abomination to you" (lev 11:12) (so eating a prawn is instant damnation);
"...for him who has an emission of semen, becoming unclean thereby" (lev 15:32) (you're all doomed, lads).
come on, folks. we're talking about someone trying to sort out public health and hygiene stuff (all this washing after ejaculation) and increasing the population (don't go near a menstruating woman, or be gay, cos you can't have kids that way) after the diaspora of moses and his lot. of course it's going to be draconian. i don't really think one can read it as applicable in this day and age, can one? and yes, i have used selected highlights from leviticus, but that's what people do to prove their point, so i'm just joining in. someone once said that one can use the bible to justify more or less anything. when muslims quote the koran, they're accused of fundamentalism. hmmm... (nuff said?)
