It's also repugnant and controlling when you quote it correctly.

Pathetic. There is far more evidence for fine tuning of our universe then there are for an infinite ensemble of other universes.

Some parameters seem unlikely to have occurred that way if they are unrelated to all the other ones. That is far from evidence that a being knowingly constructed it that way.

Again, incorrect assumptions after incorrect assumption. You are assuming that fine tuned parameters occur by the notion of necessity. Brandon Carter has made it clear that even if fine tuning was a necessity, it would in itself, require even more fine tuning.

Granted, while fine tuning of the universe is a strong argument for the existence God (although I am more convinced by other aspects of my Catholic faith), it is not an iron cast smackdown blow on atheism.

Mmm, there's nothing new on this thread since yesterday. what a pity

I got kicked out on the "Yahweh and Allah. Are they moral and ethical Gods?" thread by GnosticBishop. Checked his thread today, it is dead since 4 days
In the meantime the "Do you believe in God?" thread is filling up with rhetoric like a glass of water with water ("insane", "repugnant", "ugly").
NoahYates didn't show up in weeks to crash with a few youtube vid's with higher consciousness, no linguistic yoga from drlaugh either.

This might suggest I should skip this site and get a life, but I don't have one, caused by ASD-ND. .
so keep writing guys

Keep working on my own religious thoughts then. . , not trying to skip any facts (= insane). Maybe just post them, what does it matter

These are the last notes I made, trying to make a theory about a "second fall of man". First fall of man is that of Genesis, second fall of man is man losing all belief in God. Does that mean God is dead?
Or does this all depend on the continuous governance by God? God, himself, insisting that such a thing as paradise is not possible at all, to declare the whole thing to be a physical impossibility and use his authoritative position to discount any claims that it exists, to make us think that it is a hoax and let us laugh about it, while still to bring us from time to time to a certain peak experience, where it is possible to experience something that is like paradise, a feeling from the type "it feels as if I'm in paradise" though it's not the real thing.
This method seems silly, but it is even more effective to create loyalty on the part of Man. It puts a stimulus in the system of Man and have that stimulus reactivate and respons any time to his command.
Instead of a real paradise that an only be created at the end of time
This method might cause Man to accept the idea of paradise as his own experience, not as a product of God. But don't be surprised. Only the most delicate divine operator could bring about loyalty and obedience of Man, and still keep Man ignorant of the whole operation.

I continue to Praise & Worship
The Lord.
This questioning stuff is not new.

Even Time magazine asked the question. It was 1966.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Is_God_Dead%3F

I didn't read the article. I do read The Bible on a daily basis. I also occasionally will play Gospel Tunes (along with made up blues songs) on harmonica while shopping.

As far as our house we will worship The Lord.

Love and prayers

Sorry I have not been posting, although I have been reading. I have been extremely busy planting my garden (the largest I have ever attempted.) Here soon I plan to start a gardening thread!

Noah

Your post reminds me We reap what we sow.

May your harvest be bountiful. Our neck of the woods has had great rain. Our lawns and flowers are looking great.

I used to hate mowing. These days I praise The Lord as a few years ago I had difficulty standing and even holding a full cup of coffee in my hand.

Love and prayers

Zvi

Named what you will . In a Word ? Yes.

If there are no souls and death is final darkness as my Ex the sociopath claimed? I will be none the worse off for my belief.

I believe in God. I believe in God(s). But I believe that the God in the Bible is an entity that raised us up and uplifted us above animals and made covenants with us in a personal fashion. I do not argue semantics of written stories based on really old verbal pass down. (Chinese whispers... humans are flawed). Therefore my loyalty is to Him.

Or in simple terms? I believe my God was the most interpersonal and the baddest on the block. I do not believe life a fluke of such astronomical odds that nothing else had been found to come close. Evolution and natural selection are not simply an opposite (tho as some other things were invent that sometimes are found incorrect).
I accept but have doubts on the accuracy of carbon dating. If carbon dating was a dna test with a man's life at stake, it would not always win the jury.

As a Christian , I believe the Christ was the last of humans to have a one2one relationship with this God and was the last prophet and intercessor. The ultimate scapegoat.
I definitely believe the Catholic church is the direct line of Church of Peter. But as a Roman Catholic I do have doubt if the orthodoxy or roman is the truer successor of Christ's intent since the church split over politics it had no business having if discharging it's Holy duty proper. The Roman Church translating improperly from original greek to latin and having scholars of more of scholastic Imperial nature than theoria and apophasty are some key points opf doubts.
But it will not shake my faith if the. Catholic is not the institution, it is the "way". The wholeness.

So that is where I am

Cool, let us know where on this forum will be your gardening thread.
This year we bought a little greenhouse - growing some food such as tomatos. When we bought the house, we put here a walnut tree, hope to sit under that tree when I'm old

And to not get offtopic too much: everything grows thanks to some severe fine tuning - and a little water and sun

You might have wasted your life living up to the scriptures, denying yourself certain pleasures, perhaps rejecting those that believe otherwise, following rules that don't make sense... Not to mention all the other religions you could be wrong about.

."As a Christian , I believe the Christ was the last of humans to have a one2one relationship with this God and was the last prophet and intercessor. The ultimate scapegoat."

The scapegoat was a superstitious ritual whereupon an animal was said to take on the sins of the community and then killed in an act of purification.

-_-

um easy there skippy. This was a Yes or No question of DO YOU? not the' is there a god, convert to atheism/catholicism thread '(there is one).

That said; the only waste of my minutes in life were at a soul eating service job and 5 years too many in my marriage (which personal physical fear was the anchor, not love or religion. I am actually allowed remarriage in the Church).

I have missed out on what? Which of the 10 commandments is insensible or New Testament suggestion simply too horrid for a free spirit to endure? Even if the other side were like olympus and many gods were there, I'd still only follow one.
It should be no brainers not to kill, steal, lie on folks, or cheat on your partner, and jealous obsession on everything my neighbor has from spouse to house is not healthy and may have you do one of the prior mentioned.
Are those things supposed to be fun? So are certain carnival rides that make me vomit on myself and pass put. I'll pass on the dubious fun . Other religions being the true way? For their adherents, maybe. Many "Religions " are not religions at all. Their founders never once claimed to be deity while living. Some religions may end up being the same god translated a different way. Judaism is 3rd oldest religion and second oldest continuous living religion after Hinduism(Brahmaism) which has a type of pantheon but they are expressions of a "supreme one being".
Or do you mean avoidance of lesser sins= no fun? Sometimes I do human things. Say sorry. Press on. But nothing I personally derive constant pleasure from is a "sin" in nearly any religion one can choose anyway. And not out of growing up in fear, I was pretty blessed and spoiled all my young life.
I have survived harrowing ordeals that atheist friends thought I should shun religion for happening instead of thank that I came thru with astronomical odds.
I even accompanied friends to their worship when I was younger. I also almost became a nun. But I wanted enough other things (children, etc) I knew I couldn't do so in a whole way.

I'm not sure why you argue over scapegoat?
And if he is as real as you do not believe, would not Jesus, considered a pure being trapped in human flesh, whose death was the payment for all time of all sins of mankind except to reject the Spirit. Wouldn't that make him the most supreme of scapegoats
I do not require to see an atom to believe an atom is there? Greeks believed starting with Democratis before there was ever a way to "see" them 2400 years later in chemistry breakthroughs. The constancy of the speed of light was an axiom and recently it is proven in 2012 light DOES have a limit to it's constant speed.

It's okay, no harm no foul. And I am happy where I am. I believe and am quite comfortable in it.

That's perfectly fine, I'm just making conversation. Trying to convert people to atheism is what I do.

Your reason for believing sounds like Pascal's wager, which states that nothing is lost by worship, even if it's wrong. But what if another religion is right, and your actions amount to sin and you didn't even know it? I know your premise is that what if atheism is right, what have you lost? Religion is not without consequences, many of which could be harmful to yourself and others. According to Jesus, you can't even allow yourself to think of someone else but your husband with lust, making a sin of finding people attractive. If you experienced none of that, congratulations, but I think you are in the minority.

Democritus might have postulated atoms, but he didn't have faith in them without evidence. It was a compelling hypothesis, not a religion. He could also have been wrong, which means that faith in atomic theory would have been misplaced.

Lastly, on the subject of scapegoats, do you see that this superstitious ritual is the origin of what amounts to a reinterpretation of the same theme. How can a person be responsible for the misdeeds of others? Isn't that unjust? Do we punish sons for the sins of the father? Isn't this ritual transparently primitive? Can I do the same thing to my cats? (I never would).

And my job is to convert others to the more logical and rational theistic world view point. With a wider knowledge and academic degrees in physics and cosmology, I will begin writing a more formal scientific proof of God's existance in the next few posts I make.
