Dunno why food stamps would kick you off when you have SSI, I thought you pretty much automatically qualified when you're on that and over 22 in age. You just tell them that you do not share food and consider yourself your own household, I dunno why they would do that unless you missed some interview or something. That's something that probably could be fixed pretty easy and you should, $190 or whatever it is a month is a lot when compared to nothing.
The reason it's happening is because the TeaParty lead congress cut SNAP benefits by $5 to $10 billion (depending on which source you reference) in the name of deficit reduction. Those cuts were in the Farm Bill they held hostage for months and months.
A lot of poor people are going hungry because we cannot raise taxes on the sacrosanct job creators.

The names they REALLY need to know are Locke and Burke...
THEN, we'd have actual libertarians instead of selfish, amoral a**holes.
Explain to me how not being immediately familiar with the authors of fiction that morons erroneously tie to my beliefs make me "intellectually bankrupt"? I only even use the label 'libertarian' because it's easier than explaining the myriad of positions that I hold, even if it's an imperfect fit, as I actually form my opinions by educating myself about things and thinking, as opposed to simply believing what my party tells me to.
Because Rand is ALSO the founder of Objectivism, the philosophical school that has a huge influence on what passes for modern libertarianism.
read about her here.

It's actually a good read with lots of interesting info on Rand.
Since libertarianism is a moral philosophy, you should be interested in where it actually comes from. I would urge you to read Locke and Burke as well. They are much less nihilist than Rand, which is her main flaw.

only the dirty open secret is that they have NOT been creating jobs but instead shipping them overseas or otherwise configuring things so that the jobs can be automated.

I thought the minimum for a single adult was $193, I don't know why I'd get any more than you. Maybe the states are different. It would be pretty messed up if they're counting the income from SSI against you. I've been able to make it work on the amount I get but I pretty much only buy stuff on sale and which ever store in an area of millions which is a labor in of itself so definitely I can see the difficulty some might have with it especially if they live in an area with limited options. I've been making a deliberate effort to buy more produce instead of stuff like Doritos or potato chips, better to snack on fruits or vegetables than that obviously but it's almost annoying how they almost always seem to be on sale here. I kind of squander my money on stuff I shouldn't sometimes but I should save up for a chest freezer since I only have a mini-fridge, it would allow me to buy more in bulk so I could really load up when ground beef is $2 or whatever good deal there may be. I have my staples that I cook; spaghetti, stroganoff, tacos. All pretty cheap.
Where I live, you can buy a 10lb bag of leg quarters for under $6. You'll never find protein cheaper than that. Get a bag of rice and a bag of frozen mixed veggies and you can eat cheap and healthy for a long time.

Yeah, a lot of folks in the grocery business actually lobbied against those cuts, observing that they actually take $5 to $10 billion directly out of the economy. BUT, the TeaParty knows best, and didn't listen...
If you want to see what austerity does, just look at the EU. It's currently headed for its THIRD dip in the recession pool.

I believe there is a reason the 1% seem to prefer recessionary regimes. it might have something to do with what Rockefeller said about how the time to buy is when blood is running in the streets.

Absolutely. If you're sitting on a pile of cash, recession and even deflation are GREAT.
Everything's on sale.

yes, the ultimate in selfishness, akin to flooding the earth so that all without boats drown.
Again, what does it matter to me, someone who came to my beliefs independently, who is not an objectivist, and only even uses the libertarian label as a convenience? Like I said, I only read Rand in my late 20s after being repeatedly straw-manned by morons who couldn't conceive of someone who thought for themself, and Horatio Alger was but a half remembered fragment from school until a weaponized version of him kept getting hurled at me, causing me to refresh my memory about him. The common thread here is people projecting their own partisan prejudice onto me and assuming I see the the world in the same black and white that they do, when I see in shades of grey, and empathize with even the most seemingly repugnant, in order to better understand them. That's why I get so annoyed with this hysterical broad brush demonization that goes on with some people here, it's like they've forgotten that they're talking about their fellow man here, and will believe nearly anything about him, no matter how nonsensical, so long as it hews to their prejudice.

Rand was a writer The need to produce characters that show the traits you are trying to examine leads to overkill, wrong range of function, but a story larger than life that does sell.
Rand was an anti commie, who tried to whitewash capitalism.
It is not that simple, in any culture there are those who preserve the good, those who inovate the new, and those who leach, claim to represent humanity, and have plans to arrange the economy of others, for the greater good of all.
The problem is that is the extent of their plan. They often destroy what they claimed they would fix.
School bussing, did not raise the blacks to equality, it did destroy public education. It now exists as Teachers Unions, Public Employees that fail to turn out a quality product up to the standards set by a one room school house. Universities are a branch of government with a football team.
Social goals destroyed schools, and then wanted to do the same for business.
Government is supposed to do things that are needed but unprofitable. Some like Public Health and Education are to be provided at public expense, as they are common to all goals.
Hijacking them for Social Justice goals destroys the original purpose.
Horatio Alger stories were about looking about and finding people who were doing things you admired, then introducing yourself, as a fan of productive people. It came before "How To Win Friends and Influance People," was pitched to boys, but is the same story.
Seek the company of better people, those with goals, if you wish to improve your lot in life.
Understand that most want to complain, conive, do the least, and hold sucess in contempt. Be the other guy, one of the few that sees the good, makes the effort to understand how the person is benefiting the world, and deal with them as the best person they are.
While you can see them as good, there must be much more, that you would like to know. A positive view, get people talking about themselves, and you have made a friend who will give you an education that cannot be had otherwise.
Carnagie Steel was considered the meanest man that ever owned a steel mill, then he gave all of his money to build Public Libraries. If praised for producing the steel that made railroads, ships, buildings, and asked what was most needed, I am sure he would say, "An educated workforce." If a poor but earnest young man asked him what field he should study, I am sure his advice would be worth more than gold.
Tell him his mill needed a Union, he would not show you the door, but throw you out the window.
Tell him he had to hire blacks, women, homosexuals, and he would invite you upstairs, and throw you out a higher window.
If you can understand what people are trying to do in an adverse world, speak to the best self they have, you might learn something.
Ben Franklin wrote of a reserved man, hard to meet, and Franklin wanted his printing business. Successful people are often hard to meet. Franklin heard he had a book, when books were scarce, knowledge rare, and he went hat in hand and asked if he could read it. A desire to gain knowledge got him the print job, and made a friend.
The problem is there are few people, and many hamburgers. Hamburgers form mobs, have slogans, and demand something for nothing. Hamburgers have destroyed that which majority rule can destroy, and think it should also work on private property.
That factory that used to be in your town moved, and left no forwarding address.
Hamburgers are not good at math, when you run out the productive, you have to feed yourself, by taxing other hamburgers. All hamburgers are equal.
I am sure that a $20 minium wage, full health care, three weeks paid vacation would solve all your problems, except who is going to pay it.
I am sure with your degree in Social Justice and Gender Studies you will be able to create an economy just as all before you have. No one can tell you what to do, or owes you a living.

No one wants anyone to die in the streets, it's you who simply cannot accept that other people may have differing ideas on how to go about things, and sees ill intent where it doesn't exist. You also can't seem to see that you're the one that making everything nastily political, between posts lamenting how nastily political everything has gotten. Then you have the nerve to lecture the board on faulty ToM...
meh i've meet both democrats and tea party republicans, both who would love to see all the poor die, some will go as far as to suggest the gov line us up and do mass genocide.(there words were line up and shoot all the poor) what do these people have in common. they are all rich or upper middle class. how can one be a liberal democrat when they hate the main issues democrats stand for which is welfare, state paid education, medicaid etc. yet they don't like the republicans issues either.
Well isn't that just lovely....

I understand where you're coming from on this, but I don't think your analysis is entirely correct.
The 1% have in fact benefitted hugely from a policy like Quantitative Easing, which has funnelled huge amounts of cash to Wall Street and banks in general. QE was specifically intended to offset deflationary forces, and reflate the economy. That's why uber-Keynesian economists like Paul Krugman and David Blanchflower have been such enthusiastic advocates of it.

Not hamburgers, human beings. And yes, we are all of equal worth. Not everyone can be an Andrew Carnegie, or wants to be. Why should ordinary people be punished for being ordinary? What's wrong with legislation that makes sure someone who wants to work can, regardless of race, sex, or sexual preference?
