I do not know -- I have never thought about that. How might scientific observation and conception play into the question of killing?

Science improves the how. I don't think it does much for the why though, except if we are assuming a consequentialist framework.(and even then we are likely using a social science rather than a hard science)

Neurological studies and experiments using brain scans and other observational methods are making advances in determining and influencing attitudes, motivations, and sense coordination that may in the near future have great influences on how to approach and control aggression. Its all laboratory stuff now but when the processes are better understood there may be a revolution in interpersonal control. This, of course, has its dark side as well as a possible future method for making relationships more peaceful and sensible.

Oh goody. Someday we can all be docile like sheep. And just who will be the shepherd?

I prefer to retain a bright line between me/mine on the one hand and others. Nothing violent or nasty you understand. Just separate. What is yours is yours and what is mine is mine. Good fences make good neighbors.

Judging from your comments, you're pretty much sheep already and the neat thing is you have been prevented from knowing it.

Nonsense. I know just how the world operates. It is not pretty.

To judge somebody or some thing is to have an opinion. This is a forum of opinions, not a legal procedure. Trials never come into it.

That's a very good observation. The protocol for this forum is that we may criticize ideas but not protagonists. Just how you disentangle the two is something I have yet to figure out. I try to step cautiously and consider that some ideas can only be produced by rather oddly constituted minds but the path is difficult. As you noted I find ruveyn a very well informed and bright guy but his orientation is very congruent to that of his ethnic Jewish culture which has been horribly and unjustifiably persecuted for centuries and it has, to my eyes, perverted his personality into an arrogant and violently defensive posture. All of his posts reveal this unfortunate attitude which is displayed openly by the Zionist movement in Israel to justify the frightful policies against the local Palestinians and the general sense that they must reply by overwhelming force to Arab response to the totally insensitive brutality by the Israel military forces. I do not deny that many of the Arabs are equally brutal and insensitive but there are justifications on both sides that must be faced and accepted before any sensible resolution to the problem is possible. Ruveyn is quite in line with this ultimate force policy and he has, several times, advocated using ultimate nuclear force against all Muslims and I find this rather unacceptably insane. This, to get back to the original comment, is a judgment of ruveyn as a person and I see no way to get around it except to indicate it is a rather personal viewpoint and I have no way of knowing if it is acceptable to the forum to object to the obliteration of a major portion of humanity on ethnic grounds.
I might note that my ancestry is also Jewish but I have discovered no validity in myself or my Jewish friends to justify the type of arrogant superiority that ruveyn extemporizes on insofar as being ethnically Jewish is concerned.

Stop talking about other people -- stop using "you" as the subject of a sentence -- and if you continue playing off of my respectful admonitions, I will stop talking to you! ;)

Stop trying to prevent my conversations. This is a conversation group and to prevent people from recognizing they are conversing with people is a rather mild form of dimentia. If you choose not to talk to me I do not consider it a punishment. That's your choice. I will continue using the second personal pronoun whenever it seems appropriate to me.

A stooge is an idiotic sycophant. Where did you get the impression I thought that of you?

I was not thinking of what you might think of me at all. That is simply what I would think about myself if I were to knowingly continue making serves that were being returned with non-edifying comments about others.
