There's something else that Dobbs and Breitbart invoke with this video, what with Dobbs speaking of "dangerous forces" - that is the People's Temple and Jim Jones. It again casts blacks as aliens looking for the quick fix of socialism falling under the spell of a person who then leads them to drink kool-aid... sure there were whites but they were a minority of that group... blacks are the problem, he says and a black man would not have not won the presidency if not for the decline in the white Protestant population as a proportion of the whole, and the influx of Catholic "half-breeds" from south of the border is blamed for that... and that Obama is seen as running a coalition of the outsiders, the blacks the Hispanics, the Catholics even, the Jews...

Many Americans claim that their Calvinist white background made them great. This is of course a lie as the South also ran a plantation economy as did Latin American countries and really were not very different from them.

Beck was on TV claiming that a cult of personality was being set up as existed mainly in Third World countries - again, these Third World people spoiling it for the superior white Protestants who built up the country - now these people are tearing it down.

I suppose that's what there's outsourcing and other such things. They can't blame Capitalism, of course, that would be sacrilege.

The right wing nuts are a minority, though a loud one with a media platform. Fox News was in full smear mode on Obama through the campaign and Obama won anyway. Lou Dobbs apparently had his ratings crater after he openly endorsed the farcical Birther movement.

Yes, you do need to get your ears checked. "Hear our cry, oh God" is very clearly what was said. I don't know when "Obama" became a two-syllable word ending in a very distinct "d."

I'm sure ultraconservatism plays the biggest role in the vehemence of the opposition. But I also think race plays a role.

The Republican Party has been built on subtly pandering to racists ever since Nixon's Southern Strategy and many ultraconservatives are linked to racist causes.

1) Reagan - or the advisors that were his cogntive faculities - used code words like "State's Rights" and "Welfare Queens" to donate allegedly affluent blacks on social assistance.
2) Forced desergration of Christian Private Schools was a key issue in forming the Religious Right - the Christian School Action clearly fought against desegregation of religious schools.
3) Willie Horton clearly played on White Fears and vetoing the Civil Rights Act of 1990 doesn't help.
4) Bush II was clearly the least racist of the lot - but even his operatives found "illlegitimate black baby" questions resonated with South Carolina Republicans.

As for the Obama presidency - yes, he won some Southern States that even white Democrats like Kerry and Gore lost. Yes, he was elected by a comfortable margin. But keep this in mind:

1) There was a major reccession. Generally, the incumbent Party loses by collosal margins in such times! Obama's victory was comfortable, but less than expected for such an awful economic situation. There has to be another factor.
2) Obama lost West Virgina - formerly a Democratic stronghold - in a time of grand recession bordering on depression. Racial flames were evident.
3) An excessive amount of death threats (up by 400% since the Bush years) have been delivered to Obama - many from racists.
4) Glenn Beck - Fox's most popular pundit-rodeo clown - has accused Obama of "hating White culture" and targeted "black radicals" who are his advisors, such as Van Jones. These aren't meant to arouse the racial tensions of certain segements of his viewership?

Can one blame whites for prefering a white president? After all, 90% of blacks voted for Obama. It is human nature...Not racism or xenophobia.

The idea of voting for someone based solely on their ethnic identity or gender is really kind of stupid.

Where did you get this wisdom?

Makes sense. Voting for a Party whose success depends on covert pandering to white racists when you're a black is sort've like giving an armed maniac a bullet when he wants to shoot you in the foot.

Obama is what you get when you let media personalities in Hollywood (and Chicago) dictate who you should vote for and not common sense and logic.

This is curious. Those who support Obama have been taunted by the Right and accused of thinking Obama is the messiah. Now the Right is damning Obama why? Because he isn't the messiah. I think people who supported him largely just think his ideas are better.

McCain promised to be an awful president, he said he would respond to the economic crisis with massive austerity programmes targeting everything except for the military, surprise surprise. He also wanted war with Russia.

There's a cultural issue with the Republicans who have painted the Democrats are full of urban elitists and that they are the party of country folk... that's one way in which they got West Virginia to switch sides.
