What is significant is that the mind encounters a continuous flood of information inlaid, twisted, overlaid, and so forth and it has filtering mechanisms to pull out what is significant and what can be discarded. The filtering mechanism is trained through experience as to what is meaningful and what is not but the difference depends very much on the individual and past experience.

Not just experience though, as I remember when I had first encountered people making spelling errors in writing that I could understand the meaning derivable from context and correct the errors. Perhaps over time experience becomes more of a factor, but even without experience it is still possible to comprehend. At least for me, as when I woke up to this world at my body's age of 4 I could understand both verbal and written English, but that may just be a case of the previous 4 years of experience which I had gained without memory of events. IDK.
