I was involved with Scientology a couple of decades ago until I realised that the "freedom" they were promising meant "slavery"

But how many laws can you pass to protect people from their own stupidity?

Ban Scientology? Sure, why not? But by the same token we should ban Catholicism, the Mormons, Orthodox Jews and Islam.

Their theories are no more stupid than Scientology and they all want your money and to control your life.

I does seem like that, doesn't it? You would think people like Isaac Hayes and John Travolta wouldn't get into something so bizarre and unconventional.

It's a little different. It'd be more like if Catholic priests kept record of all your confessions and used them to blackmail you if you tried to leave and speak out against the church.

A(r/u)tistic minds are sometimes a little more pliable to such things and it's certainly a very enveloping cult that makes itself very much a part of the person's life and open to them (and their wallets).

Celebrities are treated from a different angle than the average Scientologist. They're recruited solely for recruiting purposes. So they make sure their celebrity members are pampered and worshiped. It gives them the idea that this is a wonderful thing that everyone should try, and it works out for them in the end. Any non-celebrity, ex-scientologist will tell you that they treat the celebrities ridiculously better than everyone else.

And yeah, it's not so much believing in things that's the problem, it's the actions people take and the way they treat others. An endless cycle of mindfuckery.

Keep in mind, the people who get recruited aren't stupid either. There's a way they can attract intelligent people, and it has nothing to do with how intelligent they are. It isn't like "here's this new religion, you should try it". It's more like "We have the technology to make your life better, come take a course and try it out." The lower-level end of the courses is what most people find to be the most helpful, and once they get hooked, the BS phases kick in and by then they think they're getting better simply by climbing up the ladder higher and higher, and attribute anything good that happens to them to their studies. People don't get in thinking they want to be a part of an alien cult. There's a pretty good reason why they made that stuff confidential to begin with, and only available on the upper levels.

Of course with the widespread endless information you can find on the internet, it's getting harder and harder for them to hide what they believe, what they practice, and how they treat their own members. It's also getting harder for them to hide their abuses and plans to infiltrate various governments (They tried and failed in the past, see: "Operation Snow White").

Overall, I think it's important that Scientology be investigated and all those responsible for whatever crimes they have committed, pay the price. Same goes for anyone else who claims to be acting on religious belief, but is still breaking the law. I don't think that religion should be an excuse to be above the law, and neither does the Constitution of the United States of America.

If you want the dirt on Scientology then go to www.xenu.net

What if you heard of a cult that cut people off from their families?
What if they had to give up all possessions and never marry?
What if they had to sleep on a plank and perhaps wear a hair shirt or flog themselves?
What if they had to obey every order given to them by sadistic and perverted cult members?

Then you would be describing Catholic Monks and Nuns.

If we are going to be upset by the Scientologists, or the Moonies or the Hare Krishnas then why should we say that the Catholics are respectable and the other cults aren't?

Who says we're not? But I thought this topic was about Scientology front groups, not how bad other religions are by comparison.

I had trouble believing that was their intended edit when I first saw it because it was so absurd. I mean, come on(! !! !), the Mission Impossible theme playing while Tom Cruise is raving on like a crackhead on the streets? But then I saw that it was, in fact, their original edit and realized just how batshit insane these people really are.

I have a dream to infultrate Scientologly and like help sneak people especially children out of the facilities. Like the Fort Harrison hotel and stuff. They actually concentration camps in the middle of the desert. What's really sad is that they don't teach children job skills, life skills, or educational skills. When they leave, they have to upgrade etc. All they do is menial labor clean paint this is a violation of law.

There was a protest group called Lisa McPherson Trust, who filmed many documentaries of Scientololgy. They filmed many of the children who escaped the church.

Now the truly scary thing about Scientology, is they have recruitment in Prisons. Do we honestly think it's the sane thing to let violent felons around small children?

You could do that but don't you have better things to do with your life?
You could fight the Scientologists. You could devote your life to helping AIDS victims in Africa.
You could give all your money to help poor children in South America.

I am selfish. I only have one life and I want to do the best for myself, my wife, my children, my relatives and my friends.

If other people make stupid mistakes and mess up their lives then that's their problem.

@wombat-

I agree 100%! !! ! Free will is what makes humans human.

Making an informed decision is a good idea. If all you do is watch FOX news, and believe in H-Bomb using aliens named Xeno, then I pity them. I don't wish them harm.

I would like to see every person, be they with Xeno or from a star near Kolob given enough data to make informed decisions

If you make an informed decision and still choose to believe in zombies, gold plates, or 144,000 saved souls on the day of judgement, then more power to you!! I will fight for your right to believe what you believe with all of my heart.

But I am doing this for me though. When I help people. It gives me purpose to make me "Awesome". Or gives me material to blab about when talking in conversations which I suck at. Why not use our Aspergers gifts to make ourselves look good. It worked for so many Awesome Aspies, and Suspected Aspies.

I personally like the dog that says "Who's Awesome You're Awesome". And no I personally am not Awesome, others are however. I find that I have to sadist machoist beat myself up every day. And that's just the way I like it.

See life is like a video game. You put it to easy, although there are lots of blood and guts there's no challenge. You put it on SUPER hard, you're covered in alien innards zombie innards, and it's a rush. Like isn't playing left 4 dead fun when you're fighting a Tank, after you were puked on by "fatty", and you defeated Ghenghis Khan's Rave-mosh pit (the horde), attracted by Fatty's puke? You have no bullets left, you're doding left and right, with only a base ball bat and your pistols. Then The Tank comes, or you're paranoid that Tounge zombie would toungue you, the you just startled the witch. Now THAT'S fun.

I like on Halo when you're in the library tower, and all the mutants and the little mutant spermlings or what ever the hell those things are attack you. you're grabbing human weapons convenant weapons, punching little convenant gruntlings left and right.

Anyways my point is, be a Klingon in life. Do things the hard and crazy way, so that you know that you are the man. Why I've seen a blind woman from Germany win 5 gold medals, which helped propel Team Germany to top for the Paraolympics of 2010. Then I hear this ret*d stoner say he heh, I don't want to see some legless skiier in some alley in Whilstler.

Like we're people here who don't want the Eugenics cure for Aspergers. And while I don't speak for you guys. I welcome the challenge and the suckfest that's associated with this. So why not enjoy our greatness, and that Neural Typicals would cry like babies whiny babies, for the unique lives we live, rather than the pointless world of work and monotony they live?
