to expand: i started out a right-libertarian, and moved leftwards as a result of feeling that capitalism as a system was not the best way to realise the impulses which had initially drawn me to right-libertarianism - i.e. an inarticulate longing for autonomy above all else, an individualism and preoccupation with the value of the individual as such

Which one means "greedy capitalist who wants tax breaks for the rich"? I'm not too hot on the political jargon.

Where governmental power is concerned, I believe less is more.

By and large we are governed (or ruled) by knaves, idiots, liars and fools.

Only cavemen had "freedom" which is the same as anarchy.

Once we developed "civilization" there has been a trade off between "rights" and "responsibilities"

Now we give money to total losers who have a dozen illegitimate kids by different fathers. (OctoMom)

That is their "right" but what is their "responsibility"? What do they give back to the society that supports them?

Not only that but we are expected to feed teeming millions of people in Africa who breed like rabbits and have destroyed the infrastructure left to them in colonial days.

Zimbabwe was the "breadbasket of Africa" and now they are starving.

Yet they expect US to feed them? To hell with them. They can starve for all I care.

I'm a socialist who believes that workers should own and control the means of their own production instead of being wage slaves. However, I must admit that I haven't been thinking much about politics lately.

Name one country where that arrangement has worked well.

People are stupid; large groups of people are even more stupid and should be trusted with as little power and authority as is feasible. Everything else flows from there.

Whereas, in the most successful country in the world, the USA, everyone is well fed, healthy, free of debt, and the cities are free of slums, the infrastructure is superb, everybody who wants work has a well paying job and all the legislatures are totally honest and free of corruption and the president himself is totally loved and trusted and is on top of all problems. Who could possibly want a better system?

There are no countries in the world where everyone is fed and kept healthy nor are there any countries were justice prevails. The planet earth is a very rough neighborhood, some parts are bad and others are worse. In any case the strong prevail and the weak must put up with whatever crap is dumped on them. That is the way of the world.
