It isn't. There seems to be a lot of people here who just like to pick up random news articles that make the other side look bad and post them on the forums simply to throw insults without any intention of any dialog or debate. So I figured I'd just join in and post random news articles that make the other side look bad.

Reposting random huffington headlines here serves no more purpose than me randomly posting drudge headlines in reply.

No, that was what is called a "joke." The claim that "reality has a liberal bias" is a Stephen Colbert quote from a while back. I'm well aware that Franken is on the left wing, although I would bet he is not nearly as far left as you imagine him to be.

But in all seriousness, you do seem to have a tendency to isolate yourself ideologically by disregarding any source that isn't blatant right-wing propaganda.

It was a Bush crony, not a leftists, who started sneering at liberals as "The Reality-Based Community."

First, I don't see how your post made the other side look bad. Second, there was nothing random about my intentions. The point I was trying to make is that I'm fed up with hollow cry for cuts made by many (not all) republicans. It seems like a complete no-brainer that cuts need to be made. We've got serious financial issues to deal with, of course we need to cut spending, but we also need to raise more revenue (taxes). It seems like every time a republican is asked what specifically s/he'd like to cut, we get the run around, either by question avoidance or, apparently, by making an imaginary cut. Sure they talk about the issue, but I'd really like to see them deal with the issue.

At least Obama's commission is having a real conversation about it, as illustrated by the article you posted. No one wants to hear "let's cut medicare," or social security, or education, or pretty much anything they enjoy benefits from, but we have to get real to solve the problem. It's political suicide to push for cuts in these programs, but reality says we can't afford to continue doing the things we are doing. Many republicans don't appear to be willing to risk their political careers to effectively deal with the problem. I'm not saying the democrats are perfect - they're not, but they seem to be a bit more grounded in reality these days.

You're honestly telling me if it was a republic lead panel that recommended cutting Social Security and Medicare that you would react the same way? Most of the left would be here screaming bloody murder that republicans just want to kill old people. Dems suggest it, oh, they're just being reasonable and realistic. Yea right.

Yes, indeed I would. I recently heard Darrell Issa (R-CA), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, speak about cutting Social Security through ways of a means test, which I think is a great idea. Unfortunately, he's having a heck of a time getting support for it. Times are tough and painful cuts must be made. I fully support an open and honest coversation about.
