Going back to chruch. What denominations are NOT agianst...
I am working on getting my life together at 23. Working out. Going back to school almost full time while working 3 days a week. Now, its time for church. What denominations are not agianst autistics. Mind you, my disability is not that visible or socially noticable. However, I want to feel welcom....
Being an atheist, I might not be the best person to answer this question, but it seems to me that perhaps it is not the denomination, but the specific group of people who make up the congregation that will be either accepting or rejecting of a particular type of person.
I have friends who go to a Lutheran church and some of the people there seem to be fairly liberal and accepting of different types of people, but there are also some fairly unaccepting sides of the Lutheran church. But as I say, it's more the individuals involved, probably not so much the specfic denomination.

Not to debate the merits of brands of Christianity, but there is actually no evidence that evolution of species occurs, only random mutations. In order to prove evolution was occurring, you'd have to observe the species in question over several thousand years, which has not been done because human science isn't that old yet. Even the fossil record doesn't give any substantial support for evolution without the benefit of several large 'leaps of faith'. Too many missing links to establish 'overwhelming evidence'.
Now, that doesn't in any way support the notion that Yahweh the Hairy Thunderer made the universe out of silly putty in six days, only that the origins of everything are still mere speculation and hypothesis.
On the subject of a universal flood, however, there is in fact much evidence, that at the end of the last ice age, glacial meltdown was occurring at a rapid rate and as huge lakes of meltwater formed in pools atop glaciers, they frequently broke through in massive torrents. When you consider that most of North America and Europe were encased in blocks of ice many meters high, that's a huge amount of water released anytime it happens, so stories of astounding floods and vanishing civilizations are not so far fetched as they used to sound. Over the past two decades evidence of sizable human constructions underwater off the coasts of Japan, India and the Persian Gulf has made it more and more likely that when we unearth the earliest beginnings of human civilization, they'll be in areas lost to a sort of 'global flood' long ago. Would explain how Egypt and Sumeria's high civilizations just appeared fully formed out of nowhere. They were refugees. I refer you to Graham Hancock's book 'Underworld' or Colin Wilson's 'The Atlantis Blueprint'.

As to denominations of Christianity and their acceptance or rejection of AS. I don't know if most would come right out and discriminate, but they're as likely as anyone else to believe if it can't be seen, it isn't really there, that you're just a whiner with a diagnosis, that if you pray hard enough, it will go away, or worse, that you're possessed by a demon and need to be exorcised or prayed over, with hands laid on. I don't think I would mention it until I had a sense of where a particular group's mentality ran. If a given church has parents with autistic children, that would be a good sign that the group recognizes it as a disability.

I know it's been said that this discussion doesn't belong here, but I thought I'd give a little info on the subject of evolution, as it interests me. Just got done with an anthropology class this semester. And a general science class where we talked about radioactive materials (and the like) quite a bit. So, combined, I know a bit about carbon and uranium dating.
First, it is perfectly okay to take this kind of dating with a grain of salt. It is in no way an accurate marker of age. It is only a rough estimate based on the decay of the material (carbon and uranium). Carbon is only really accurate for an age of up to 50,000 years, anyway.
Secondly, all of the evolution talk I've been exposed to in anthropology is subject to much speculation. This archaeologist thinks this. That archaeologist thinks that. It's pretty much a theory as to how we split off, where we split off from, etc.
HOWEVER, I will tell you that we share 98% of our genes with chimpanzees. Which does indicate that we have common ancestry and we went one way while they went another. So, I think this is some pretty good evidence of some kind of change going on.
Also, natural selection feeds into the story of evolution and I would suggest looking at Darwin's study of finches (pretty sure it was Darwin. If not, someone who was associated with Darwin's theories).
So, I don't know. I personally believe in evolution and I think there is a good argument for it. No doubt that the blunders that we've encountered along the way have cast a shadow of doubt on the whole thing. But we must remember, it is still a theory. Evidence for it for sure, but in no way proven as fact.
The same can be said about the creation of man as told in the Bible. Theory as well. It's up to you what you believe in. Nobody's really that wrong for believing in either theory.
That being said, I'll return to the point of the OT's post. I can't suggest any certain denomination. Even within dominations, there are differences from church to church. I would take the advice that someone else suggested; that being to hop around and see what closely aligns with your own beliefs. Also, a group of people that will accept you and embrace you. I have this belief in the "You'll know it when you feel it" kind of thing. Don't settle for anything less.

I would say it's probably not denominations that do or don't discriminate. It's probably individual churches. So look at the ones in your area, stop by one Sunday, ask questions. You'll either find one or not, and if not, just stick to studying the Bible on your own.

Evolution has been show to occur in a lab. Below is a wikipedia link on how e-coli was seen to evolve to be able to metabolize citrate.

When people speak of debate about evolution amongst scientists, it is not that evolution occurs. All reputable scientists agree that evolution occurs. What is a subject of debate is the specific details of how it works. Stephen Jay Gould proposed the punctuated equilibrium approach while Richard Dawkins prefers the tiny, incremental approach.
Remember that Darwin's was proposing a theory of evolution through the means of natural selection. He did not know what the mechanism was that caused traits to be transmitted from one generation to another, but predicted that there would have to be one. What he was saying, however was that events in the natural world would influence how likely an animal was to be able to reproduce. Adaptations that made that animal less likely to reproduce would tend to get culled out. Ones that improved the ability to reproduce would tend to remain. Without knowing the mechanism, it was obvious that some sort of random mutation would have to occur to provide the seed of change.
Gregor Mendel provided further information on how traits are passed from one generation to another in predictable patterns and with the discovery of DNA, the coding mechanism and trait selection process was discovered.
A good theory has predictive qualities. If you can take a theory and say, "if 'A' is correct, it means 'B' will have to happen." and then you discover 'B' that gives a great deal of weight to your theory. This is exactly what keeps happening with evolution.
Some people bring up the transition from land mammals to sea mammals (whales, manatees etc) For a long time there were no fossils that showed transitions of mammals returning to the sea. But in the past decade there have been a number of fossils found (I believe in the middle east) that show exactly this.
If evolution were a weak theory you would not expect to find so many confirming pieces of evidence.
But that said, I think you should go to whatever church is accepting and welcoming. ![]()

No, never said it was a scientific theory. Just using the term "theory" to indicate that it is something not proven beyond doubt. Each individual can use their own discretion to decide whether they believe in something or they don't.
However, many religious scholars out there have tried to use empirical data to back up the story of creation. So, I guess it can be argued that it has been subject to scientific debate. I'm speaking rhetorically here, though.

I've never been to a church who is officially against people with disabilities. Members might feel uncomfortable and ignore certain people but the church doesn't come right out on the pulpit and hammer people with disabilities. Maybe Westboro Baptist Church might.

I worked as a microbiological engineer for a spell and yes, I would also say that evolution as a process is a hard, well supported working theory.
Evolution as a history I am not going to say is the same concept

that isnt really you is it??
You could try pentecostal. But they might try to pray the autism out of you. Just kidding. They once tried to pray the demon of depression out of me.
Their meetings get a bit loud so you'd wanna take some ear plugs just in case. Or noise cancelling headphones.
