Some people play ping pong with themselves by placing the table against a wall. I argue with Inuyasha. It is an almost-identical form of idle entertainment.

No one's proposing any sort of brevity rule, we're just discussing techniques for dealing with a certain type of forum blowhard. Nobody is going to restrict your rambling, even though as a private website I don't believe the ADA has any power here.

http://www.ada.gov/pubs/adastatute08.htm

Quote:
Sec. 12187. Exemptions for private clubs and religious organizations

The provisions of this subchapter shall not apply to private clubs or establishments exempted from coverage under title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. 2000-a(e)) or to religious organizations or entities controlled by religious organizations, including places of worship.

We seem to be exempt as a "private club."

Nope:

"Catch-22" was repeatedly cited to me with agencies, and sure enough: "Yossarian, they can prepare as many official reports as they want and choose whichever ones they need on any occasion. Didn't you know that?" "Catch-22" by Joseph Heller (S&S Classic Ed edition (October 5, 1999)), page 406. But, not a one-way street.

http://www.ada.gov/taman3.html

"III-1.6000 Private clubs. The obligations of title III do not apply to any "private club. " An entity is a private club for purposes of the ADA if it is a private club under title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin by public accommodations.

Courts have been most inclined to find private club status in cases where --

1) Members exercise a high degree of control over club operations.

2) The membership selection process is highly selective.

3) Substantial membership fees are charged.

4) The entity is operated on a nonprofit basis.

5) The club was not founded specifically to avoid compliance with Federal civil rights laws.

Facilities of a private club lose their exemption to the extent that they are made available for use by nonmembers as places of public accommodation.

ILLUSTRATION: A private country club that would be considered a "private club" for ADA purposes rents space to a private day care center that is also open to the children of nonmembers. Although the private club would maintain its exemption for its other operations, it would have title III obligations with respect to the operation of the day care center."

Something also to do with "individual", "jointly", and "severalty" type legal logic, as Facebook and Facebook members discovered, with the added potential of new law pseudo-doing away with the blame only the individual shield as an added loaded technicality causing major Plan-9 From Internet Land Panic.

So, would the ADA cover WrongPlanet?

I'm going to add that I've been pleased with the relatively hands off style of the current mod team. Back in 2008 when I joined up, it was not uncommon for mods to randomly wander in and start citing people for normal and accepted PPR behavior as this forum behaves very differently than WP at large, not an enjoyable experience.

I'll also be curious to see how it works out with Cornflake actively participating in some of the more heated threads, like I mentioned in the OP I don't believe we've ever had a mod that came from the PPR primary users and I'll be happy to have one around that knows the ropes in here.

Since a lot of hardcore PPR users never check outside this forum, I though it would be helpful to link to the ongoing discussion about how PPR is moderated going on elsewhere:

If you have any ideas, questions, comments or suggestions about how the forum works and want them to be heard by the site staff, that's the place to do it at the moment.

I've thrown in my two cents. But we've been around this before.
